A missile explosion near Sderot yesterday.

No warnings, no sirens, no information. We would not even have known about the above Palestinian missile strike had not some Israeli citizen been there to take a photo.

This is the current modus operandi of the IDF: no warnings, no sirens, no information about what is going on along the Gaza border.

The News On The Israeli Street

Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .

On the Gaza border:

See Today’s Blog  below.

In Judea and Samaria:

*Palestinian terrorists set fire to the Rosh Tzurim Forest near Gush Etzion.

*A Palestinian terrorist hurled a knife at soldiers at the Beit Horon checkpoint.

*Givat Assaf, Luban A-Sharqiya, El Aruv, Route 60, the Abud Bypass Road, Migdalot, between Hatam and Efrat, Qalandiya, the Trans-Judea Highway, Beit El: these were 10 of some 30 locations where Israelis were attacked yesterday with “rocks” and Molotovs.

Welcome home to Israel! . . .

Some 300 new immigrants from Ukraine landed at Ben Gurion Airport yesterday on flights organized by the Friendship Foundation.

In the last two years, the greatest number of new immigrants have come from the Ukraine and Russia.

Wherever they come from, they are welcome!

Go home! You are not welcome in Israel! . . .

Another American BDS supporter and member of Students for Justice in Palestine, was detained at Ben Gurion Airport on Tuesday and deported yesterday following a deportation hearing in the airport.

Lara Al-Qasem (can you believe her name) had somehow received a one-year visa from the Israeli consulate in Miami to study for one year at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.

Fortunately, she did not make it in.

The Israeli judiciary runs amok again . . .

Back in April of 2015, a Palestinian terrorist rammed his car into a Jerusalem bus stop killing Shalom Yohai Cherki and critically wounding his girlfriend Shira Klein.

In the trial that followed this attack, the terrorist was sentenced to life imprisonment plus 20 years, and also ordered to pay 516,000 shekels to the families of Cherki and Klein. The order to pay monetary compensation to victims of terrorism is not unusual–especially given the fact that the PLO pays these terrorists hundreds of thousands of shekels during their time in prison.

However, Judge Menachem Mazuz of the Israel Supreme Court issued an opinion yesterday that such compensation should not be included as part of a terrorist’s punishment because “the terrorists cannot afford to make the payments and the payments serve no purpose” anyway. Judge Mazuz went on to say that such financial burdens make it impossible for the prisoner to be “a productive person” when he is released from prison.

Released from prison? Doesn’t it say something that an Israel Supreme Court Justice fully expects a terrorist sentenced to life + 20 years to be released from prison?

And isn’t it amazing how the Israeli judiciary constantly turns the terrorist perpetrator into the victim?

Boom, boom, boom. That is what we have heard since 6 pm last night here in Ashdod–all coming from the Gaza border 25 km away.

What are the booms? Some of them sound like unreported incoming missile strikes; some of them sound like naval cannon fire; some of them sound like artillery or tank fire.

Or they could be something else. Yesterday, we became aware of a back and forth along the border involving our firing “sound bombs” at terrorists and their firing “gas bombs” back. Apparently, all of these bombs make considerable noise.

Another facet of life here in south Ashdod aside from the constant noise of drones overhead is going to sleep at night smelling smoke coming from the Gaza border, and waking up in the morning to more smoke.

Yesterday was another day of numerous fires at such places as Be’eri, Sa’ad, between Moshav Singer and Kfar Maimon, and at the Black Arrow site near Sderot.

One more item of note today. Following an assessment meeting yesterday between senior IDF officials and Shin Bet representatives, the army has decided to reinforce its troops along the Gaza border, and to place Iron Dome batteries across southern Israel.

Including one situated about a mile northeast of our house here in Ashdod and another located about a half mile to the south.

After the meeting, the IDF spokesman blathered:

“The IDF is prepared for a variety of scenarios and sees Hamas as responsible for everything happening in and out of the Gaza Strip.”

What nonsense.

As we have been noting in recent blogs, the IDF General Command has issued new open-fire regulations that have rendered our soldiers defenseless, and Hamas is never held responsible for anything.

As we have also noted, the degree of collusion between the IDF and Hamas is astonishing with the IDF warning Hamas in advance of attacks on its facilities.

We in southern Israel are no longer sure that the IDF is ready for any scenario much less “a variety of scenarios.”

You know what your humble servant just heard? Boom. Boom. Boom.
