The Joke Quote of the Day

“If there is another Hamas provocation in the south, this time we will not be prevented from acting and we will deal a crushing blow.”

Security Cabinet member and Netanyahu close friend Tzachi Hanegbi speaking at a panel on Friday

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! Good one Tzachi! One of your best jokes!!

Tzachi Hanegbi, you will remember dear reader, let it be known after the last mini-war with Hamas that the lives of people in Tel Aviv are simply more important than the lives of all of us here in the South. The idea that Israel will ever deal “a crushing blow’ to Hamas is absurd. Just yesterday, we facilitated another $15 million dollar blackmail payment to the Hamas leadership in Gaza.

By the way, here’s a news flash for Tzachi: Palestinian terrorists firing 525+ missiles and mortars at southern Israel in 25 hours is not a “provocation.”

Funny video of the day from Beit Yanai

As heavy rains continue to pummel Israel (at this moment another heavy rainstorm is soaking Ashdod), some residents are taking every advantage of the opportunities to cavort in the numerous “lakes” that have been created:

The News On The Israeli Street

On the Gaza border . . .

So much for blackmail. Despite receiving the latest $15 million dollar blackmail payment yesterday, another 12,000 Hamasniks burned tires and threw grenades/IEDs/Molotovs/”rocks” at our troops. Approximately 35 of the terrorists were wounded; however, none were permanently dispatched.

Always noted for playing down the Hamas attacks, the IDF spokesman described the 12,000 person attack as “relatively low-volume.”

Meanwhile in Kfar Kila on the northern border . . .

Kfar Kila is the Lebanese town from which the first revealed Hezbollah tunnel led into Israel. It turns out, of course, that this quiet bucolic farming community is anything but.

The entire town is a wasp’s nest of Hezbollah operatives and facilities:

To put this another way, every Shi'ite town and village in southern Lebanon is a booby-trap.

To put this another way, every Shi’ite town and village in southern Lebanon is a booby-trap.

There is nothing unusual about Kfar Kila. All of the 260 Shi’ite communities in southern Lebanon undoubtedly have the same infrastructure.

The Netanyahu “investigations” heat up again . . .

Now that it looks increasingly like new elections will not happen until sometime between April-June at the earliest, the Israel police and media have launched into another series of “investigations” of the Netanyahus.

Yesterday’s leak from the police was so ludicrous as to defy credulity. Apparently, Sarah Netanyahu was called in once again concerning the “dormitory” affair (this is the absurd case that revolves around her allegedly unnecessary spending of money for pizzas for the kids, etc. etc).

This time police presented her with a receipt for 7000 shekels from 2014 and accused her of spending the money to buy equipment for her ailing father. Her reply was simply: “My father died in 2011.

You may remember that this is not the first time that Sarah has been accused of spending household money on her dying father. The last time, the police said that she used “household tea” to make a cup of tea for him.

It is beyond pathetic.

TODAY’S BLOG:

A Tale of Two American Universities And Their BDS Vote

The contrast could not have been clearer this week.

At Ohio State University, the undergraduate Student Government defeated a BDS resolution to divest from companies that “benefit from the Israeli occupation of Palestine.” It also called for “an academic boycott of Israeli universities, including cancellations of currently invited speakers and visiting professors” and end “existing programs or relationships with Israeli universities.” The resolution was rejected by a vote of 33-7.

At New York University, the Student Council voted in favor of a BDS resolution that calls for the university to stop any connection with any company that “profits from the violation of Palestinian human rights, the occupation of Palestine, and the continuation of settlement that has been defined as illegal by international law.” The resolution passed by a vote of 35 for, 14 against, and 14 abstentions.

What made the difference?

One difference was that at Ohio State, the BDS effort was led by a Palestinian student while at New York University, the BDS effort was led by an Israeli student.

Yes, an Israeli student.

Another difference was that the resolution at Ohio State called for divestment and an academic boycott, while the one at New York University purposely only called for divestment.

At Ohio State, the bottom line argument as articulated by leaders against the resolution was: “This legislation goes against the mission and values of our university, and we unequivocally discourage its passage.” During the debate on the resolution, other students said that the resolution was “hate speech” and “discriminatory against Jewish students.” As one student correctly said“Anti-Zionism is anti-Semitism. Zionism is the Jewish people’s right to self-determination … that’s not something that can be taken from me, and how dare you try and do that.”

At New York University, Israeli student Rose Assaf was joined by the Black Student Union, the Anti-Fascist Organization, the Asian Women’s Union, Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP), and Students for Justice in Palestine.  In her declaration in support, Assaf strangely said that  “BDS will bring justice to my family in Israel.”

As reported in the Haaretz newspaper, Assaf further proclaimed that her father was born at Kibbutz Degania, and that it was important for her as an Israeli to support BDS because people listen more to Israeli Jews. She is undoubtedly correct in her observation.

So to sum the blog today, how can BDS supporters greatly increase their odds of having anti-Israel resolutions passed?

1. Have the resolution sponsored by a Jewish student–or better still, an Israeli Jew.

2. Just focus on divestment–do not include an academic boycott.

3. Make sure that a large consortium of student organizations support the resolution.

One last word: your humble servant feels nothing but disgust for people like Rose Assaf and her ilk–self hating Israeli Jews who will stop at nothing to curry the favor of those outside of Israel (groups like “Breaking the Silence”).
