What Happened in Syria Last Night?

The Ludicrous Quotation of the Day:

“We’re facing an election campaign [in which] the left is trying to make a governmental change . . . They must not succeed – if, heaven forbid, they succeed, there will be a clear danger to settlement . . . We also had to work hard against the current US administration in order to bring about the great achievements we brought to the settlements . . . under a leftist government, everything will be reversed in a moment. “

PM Netanyahu, kicking off his election campaign at a meeting of the heads of the Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria

A clear danger to settlement? Great achievements we brought to the settlements? Netanyahu has done virtually nothing in the last 8 years to facilitate settlement. What he has done is allow Migron and Amona to be uprooted and homes to be razed in Beit El and Netiv Avot. Dozens of fledgling communities have been destroyed.

Of course it is true that the Jewish population of Judea and Samaria has greatly increased since 2009–but this is no thanks to Netanyahu. That increased population is still living in virtually the same amount of housing as existed in 2009.

The Absolutely Correct Quotation of the Day:

“I heard that the PM Netanyahu met with the heads of the Judea and Samaria authorities and took pictures with them. Everyone behaves like everything is fine, as if nothing is happening here, and the prime minister, who is also our defense minister who is supposed to take care of our security here, is not taking care of it.

I would like to say thank you very much to the soldiers who stood with me at the hitchhiking station. With G-d’s help, it is in their merit that I am still alive, healthy and whole, and that everything is fine.”

Emunah Mevorah, the 23-year-old woman who was almost run over in Samaria today (see details below).

The News On The Israeli Street

Palestinian terror yesterday in Judea and Samaria . . .

Did you read about any of these attacks in your media yesterday?

*A Palestinian terrorist tried to run over three Israelis at a hitchhiking station at the Shomron Brigade Junction. Soldiers stationed at the Junction fired on the terrorist, wounding him and stopping the attack. No Israeli was physically wounded, but all three had to be treated by MADA for trauma.

Note how the terrorist crossed the highway and aimed directly at the hitchhiking stand below the army outpost. You can also see a soldier approaching the car after the terrorist had been shot.

Why haven’t they done this before? . . .

It has always mystified your humble servant why the PLO does not seek full membership for “Palestine” in the United Nations. We all know that the second such a resolution is introduced, virtually all of the world will fall all over themselves supporting it.

Yesterday, Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki said that the PLO will seek full membership in January.

No imported pork in Israel . . .

In what had to be one of the more absurd moves of the day, Minister of Ariculture Uri Ariel ordered that no more non-kosher meat (read “pork”) be permitted into the country.

Why is this absurd?

Because Israel has a booming business in Israel-raised, non-kosher meat which caters to the large non-Jewish Russian population as well as secular Israelis. Various kibbutzim around the country specialize in pork which has been for sale in Israel as far back as the 1950s when Kibbutz Mizra began raising pigs, the meat of which has always been euphemistically sold as “white meat.”

The only possible reason to ban pork imports is to protect pig farmers in Israel.

TODAY’S BLOG:

What Happened in Syria Last Night?

It is virtually impossible to ferret out what has happened in Syria over the last 12 hours.

To begin with, Israel apparently attacked a number of targets around Damascus. At least some missiles were fired at our attacking planes. All of the Syrian anti-aircraft missiles missed their targets, but one Syrian anti-aircraft missile flew into Israeli airspace where it was intercepted by an Israeli missile.

As for all of the details, what is real news and what is fake news?

The Russians claim that 14 out of 16 Israeli missiles were shot down. Did this really happen or is it fake news?

The Russians claim that the S300 missile defense system was used. Was it really used or was the S200 system used?

Numerous sources claim that a high level Hezbollah delegation was hit near the Damascus airport. Real or fake?

According to the Lebanese, Israel attacked:

1. Hezbollah positions in the Dimas school.

2. Division 4 headquarters in the Sabura area including the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Fajr-5 missile storehouse.

3. The headquarters of the 10th Division in Katana.

4. A “security” factory in the area of the town of Elat.

5. The headquarters of the 68th Brigade and the 137 artillery units in the Khan al-Sheikh area.

Were these targets hit or not?

Still another source said that the main target of the IAF attacks were Iranian shipments of “advanced GPS components” to Hezbollah. These components were meant help convert Hezbollah’s missiles into “precision-guided missiles.”

Was such a target hit or not?

Perhaps later today as the fog of war lifts, we might be able to discern the truth of what happened.
