The News On The Israeli Street

Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .

Two separate groups of Palestinian terrorists attempted to infiltrate Israel through the Gaza border fence today. In the first attack, three terrorists penetrated the fence, were spotted, and were subsequently chased back into Gaza. In the second assault, five terrorists were identified before they got to the fence and then fled back into Gaza when they were fired upon by IDF troops.

More waves of balloons were launched from Gaza with ever increasing amounts of explosives attached:

Numerous attacks occurred throughout Judea and Samaria

*A Palestinian terrorist armed with a knife was captured at the Qalandiya Crossing.

*A bus was heavily damaged by “rocks” and Molotovs in the Binyamin area, and another bus was attacked on the Gush Etzion Road near Hevron.

*Israeli motorists were targeted at such places as Hizma, Maale Amos, on Road 443 near Dor An, at Adam, at Ein Aabus Square in Hawara, at the Focus Checkpoint beside Beit El, Al-Khader, in the Judea Hills beside Hevron, and Shavei Shomron.

*Palestinian arsonists set fires at the Givot Forest and at the forest area near Zamburim.

Remember the Palestinian squatter family that was evicted the other day? . . .

That family had been squatting in a Jewish home for more than half a century–after its owners had been thrown out of their home when the eastern part of Jerusalem was ethnically cleansed of all Jews by the Jordanians.

They were evicted after being ordered out by the Israel Supreme Court–following a decades long legal series of appeals by the Palestinians.

Read this statement issued by the European Union yesterday–and laugh at its utter absurdity:

“The EU missions in Jerusalem and Ramallah condemn the eviction of the Abu Asab family from their home in the neighborhood of Aqbat al-Khalidiya in the Old City of Jerusalem on 17 February. The family was replaced by Israeli settlers. Further settlement plans including evictions are being moved forward in East Jerusalem, mainly in Sheikh Jarrah, Silwan, the Old City and Beit Safafa.

The EU missions in Jerusalem and Ramallah recall the successive Foreign Affairs Council Conclusions and statements in which the EU has repeated its strong opposition to Israel’s settlement policy and actions taken in this context, including evictions and demolitions. The policy of settlement construction and expansion, including in East Jerusalem, is illegal under international law, and its continuation undermines the viability of the two-state solution and the prospect for a lasting peace.”

Yet another eruption of European anti-Israeli venom–this time on behalf of one illegal Palestinian family illegally squatting in one house that was illegally confiscated by illegal Jordanian occupiers who ethnically cleansed Jews illegally.

Is it any wonder that anti-Semitism is again running rampant in Europe?

And forcing Jews to seek refuge in Israel . . .

More new immigrants arrived in Israel yesterday from Europe; this time, it was 243 new immigrants making aliya from the Ukraine.

The youngest of the immigrants is 5 months old; the oldest is 88. They are expected to primarily settle in Haifa and in my home city of Ashdod.

Israel welcomes them!

As we also welcome another . . .

The Hai-Bar Carmel Nature Reserve is an animal sanctuary which is (according to its website) “devoted to the raising of endangered and extinct animals of the region and possible re-introduction to the wild.”

Part of this effort is its “Spreading Wings” project which is focused on rare species of birds, including hawks, vultures, and eagles. Yesterday the first bird of the season was hatched in the incubation area of the Reserve. It weighed 70 grams and will be raised until it is 5 months old at which time it will be transferred to another location on the Golan and then released into the wild.

TODAY’S BLOG:

Netanyahu Fiddles While The Gate of Mercy Burns

One week ago, we reported on israelstreet how the Jordanians are working with the PLO to radically change the status quo on the Temple Mount by establishing Palestinian sovereignty at the holiest place in Judaism.

We also chronicled how the Netanyahu government is doing nothing to thwart this “sovereignty grab.”

In the last few days, the scope of this grab has expanded.

Since the  Palestinians broke into the Gate of Mercy (Sha’ar HaRachamim) and its adjacent compound several days ago and planted the Palestinian flag there, thousands of Palestinians have swarmed to the compound daily to hold mass prayers there.

Another dark day near the Gate of Mercy on the Temple Mount as the Palestinian flag is raised over the holiest place in Judaism.

The prayers are being led by the head of the new Waqf Council Sheikh Abd al-‘Azim Salhab, Mufti Muhammad Hussein, Adnan al-Husseini, the minister of Jerusalem affairs in the PLO, and Fatah (PLO armed wing) chief Hatem Abd al-Qader.

Yesterday, the Jerusalem finally responded, meekly, by detaining Salhab. This came after the Police unbelievably ran away and abandoned its police station on the roof of the Gate of Mercy last Thursday.

Yesterday’s arrest did not stop the Jordanians and Palestinians from proclaiming that the entire compound is being converted into a large prayer house.

According to a report from Al-Jazeera News, guess who is behind the Palestinian takeover of the Mount and the establishment of the prayer house at the Gate of Mercy?

None other than King Abdullah of Jordan.

As regular readers of israelstreet know, the loathsome Abdullah has long been behind attempts in numerous venues to undermine Israel.

Why Israel continues to let him get away with it nobody knows.
