The News On The Israeli Street

Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .

In Judea and Samaria:

The rash of terrorist attacks on Israeli buses continues. There were at least three attacks on the buses traveling on the Gush Etzion Road near Hevron yesterday. Windshields and windows were smashed, and passengers were cut by shattered glass and treated for trauma.

More than this, there were “rock” and Molotov assaults against Israeli families south of the Al-Khader Junction, at Neve Nectar, in Gush Talmonim, on roads throughout Gush Etzion, at Tekoa, Hawara, and near the Tapuach Junction among other places. A number of Israelis were wounded.

On the Gaza border:

In addition to the daily and nightly launches of explosive balloons into southern Israel and attacks on our soldiers at the border fence with grenades, Molotovs, and IEDs, a new form of attack has emerged in the last few weeks.

Every evening, hundreds of Hamasniks go to the border with loudspeakers and megaphones and pummel the border kibbutzim with “noise.” Obviously, this is not life-threatening, but it is just one more frightening arrow that creates PTSD in young children exposed to it.

A follow-up to yesterday’s blog about the Gate of Mercy . . .

It appears that PM Netanyahu has put down his fiddle for the moment and has ordered the Gate of Mercy compound on the Temple Mount cleared and the Gate of Mercy itself locked–all to no avail.

Yes, you read that correctly.

We now have a situation in which the Jerusalem and Israeli police are refusing to carry out the Prime Minister’s and the High Court’s order.  Apparently, this refusal is based on the fear that doing so might provoke Palestinian violence.

Can you believe this?

Of course you can. As we have noted on numerous occasions, the Jerusalem and Israeli police usually act in concert with the Islamic Wakf.

Today, the PLO orchestrated more prayers in the Gate of Mercy compound.

Netanyahu Cabinet member Uri Ariel decided to take matters into his own hands in reverse this afternoon. He went to the Mount and then attempted to exit through the Gate of Mercy.

Uri Ariel (sunglasses, white hair) on the Temple Mount today.

Uri Ariel (sunglasses, white hair) on the Temple Mount today.

Guess what? The police stopped him and would not let him through. On the other hand, they let all of the Muslim Knesset legislators pass through the Gate yesterday.

The Kineret continues to rise . . .

The depth of the Kineret (the Sea of Galilee) rose to 212.995 today which is half an inch above the lower red line.

This is fantastic news, but still remember that there is a lower red line which indicates severely lower lake level, an upper red line which indicates the nearing of a severely lower lake level, and even a black level above that which indicates that the lake level is “normal.”

Let’s just hope that the government does not use the higher lake level to give more water to Jordan.

Why does the Kineret continue to rise? . . .

Obviously, it is because of the heavy rains and snows in northern Israel. The authorities at Mt. Hermon announced today that the ski facility on the mountain will be closed for the next few days because of predicted heavy snow.

A disaster in Judea and Samaria . . .

Beginning on Sunday March 3, Israel’s unsurpassed paramedic and emergency service MADA will cease operations at a number of important stations in Judea and Samaria. Some of those stations include the ones at Dolev in Gush Talmonim, Elkana, Shavei Shomron, Tekoa, and the Megillot Dead Sea Regional Council near Route 90.

This will essentially leave hundreds of thousands of Israeli citizens with much less access to emergency medical care. The cutback is coming because 5.5 million shekels was inexplicably removed from the MADA budget this year.

To show you how ridiculous the situation is, the chairman of the Yesha Council communities in Judea and Samaria said yesterday that residents will now have to “turn to the Palestinian Red Crescent Society for assistance.”

Someone in the government needs to step up to plate and fund MADA immediately.

The Theater Of The Absurd:

Netanyahu Seeks Donors For Hamas And the PLO

Speaking of how ridiculous the situation has become, wrap your minds around this dear readers.

PM Netanyahu is about to convene a conference of donor countries next week to help fund Hamas and the PLO.

Yes, you read that correctly.

Israel is looking for ways to fund Hamas and the PLO.

Of course, that is not the way that Netanyahu will put it; his spiel will be that Israel is acting to stem possible humanitarian crises in Gaza and in Areas A and B of Judea and Samaria.

And why does Israel need to do this?

Obviously, Israel doesn’t need to do this, but the Israeli/Netanyahu rationale is that because Israel has just cut funds to the PLO because it continues to fund the salaries of Palestinian terrorists in prison and the families of dead terrorists, PLO Chairman Mahmoud Abbas will cut funds to Gaza in order to recoup money for the PLO.

All of this comes on top of American cuts to the PLO and the announced elimination of Qatari money to Gaza in April.

So . . . because Israel is terrified that these cuts in funds will provoke Palestinian terror, Netanyahu (and the IDF) feel that it is incumbent upon Israel to come up with more dough for the terror organizations.

From the Temple Mount to Ramallah to Gaza City, the Palestinians have mastered the art of intimidating Israel, and we Israelis have somehow internalized that we must kowtow to their threats.

Absolutely pathetic.
