The News On The Israeli Street

Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .

On the Gaza border:

Palestinian terrorists in Gaza launched a missile yesterday that struck just off the coast of Ashdod. Hamas later claimed it was merely a “test missile”, but the fact is that the missile struck within 1 kilometer of an offshore gas rig and within 1 kilometer of the port of Ashdod–the largest port in Israel. Even more than that, the missile exploded in the immediate vicinity of a number of ships that were lined up to enter the port.

By the way, there was no alarm that warned of the incoming missile.

Not surprisingly, the IDF revealed this morning that it has deployed Iron Dome batteries “throughout the country”.

Palestinian terrorists in Gaza have continued launching explosive balloons into southern Israel today. The most recent fire broke out at Nahal Oz and has just been extinguished by firefighters.

In Judea and Samaria:

Marda, Jam’in, Carmel, Ma’on, Hawara, Tekoa, on Road 443, near Tapuach, Luban A-Sharqiya, and Kedumim: these were 10 of some 25 locations where Palestinian terrorists attacked Israelis with “rocks” and Molotovs.

The sickening government actions at Maoz Esther today . . .

What do you think our government was doing while the above attacks and others were taking place against Israeli men, women, and children?

It was also busy attacking Israeli men, women, and children.

Yes, you read that correctly.

Early in the morning more than 600 Border Policemen, policemen, and members of the Civil Administration descended on Givat Maoz Esther. They brought cranes, bulldozers, and even porta-potties for their use.

By mid-morning, 5 homes (including one belonging to a newly married couple) were destroyed as was a makeshift synagogue used by community members.

The home belonging to the newly weds that was destroyed today.

The home belonging to the newly weds that was destroyed today.

Palestinian terrorists run amok in Judea and Samaria, and Palestinians build illegal structures by the score, and whom does government attack?

It is absolutely appalling.

As is the chutzpah of the European Union . . .

Yesterday, the European Union representative to the United Nations Security Council demanded that Israel not expel Omar Shaker.

Shaker is the representative of the abominable Human Rights Watch in Israel. He is being kicked out of the country because of his vehement support for the BDS movement.

Are we out of the woods?

Of course not, the Kineret is still missing about 2.5 meters–but the situation is infinitely better than it was!

TODAY’S BLOG:

How Will It All Come Together? It’s A Mystery.

The party heads all posing for a picture today after being sworn in to the new Knesset.

The party heads, President Rivlin, and Knesset Speaker Edelstein all posing for a picture today after being sworn in to the new Knesset.

The 21st Knesset has just been sworn in.

But that does not mean that we are any closer to having a new government.

Moshe Kahlon and his Kulanu Party say that they will remain independent and will not join Likud.

Bezalel Smotrich of the New Right Party says that he will not join the Coalition unless New Right receives the Education and Justice ministries.

Aryeh Deri of the Shas Party says that Shas will not join the government unless Shas receives the Interior Ministry and the Housing Ministry–and unless the new government pledges to protect yeshiva budgets.

Yakov Litzman of the United Torah Judaism Party has declared that it wants the Health Ministry, the Welfare and Housing Ministry, partial control of the Education Ministry, and an important committee position for each of its 8 members.

Avigdor Lieberman and his Yisrael Beiteinu Party say that they will not join a Netanyahu coalition that is a “haredi government” (in other words a government that caters to orthodox Jews).

The list of what everyone wants goes on and on.

How will all of this come together?

It’s a mystery.

But the fact is that no one really wants to have another election in the near future, so compromises will have to be made and bedfellows–no matter how repugnant–will have to be formed.
