Your humble servant wonders if Jason Greenblatt has been reading israelstreet. Just two days ago, I wrote: “As we all know, the Palestinians are infants who revel in their dependency on others.” I could have added “and always blame others for their problems.”
As you, I, and Greenblatt know, the Palestinians never ever take responsibility for anything that happens to them.

In Judea and Samaria:
As we have been continuously reporting for some weeks now, the fire plague that once was limited to our communities on the Gaza border has now swept into our communities in Judea and Samaria.
It’s not enough that these brave community member have to face “rocks” and Molotovs everyday, they now have face terrrorist-lit fires that are destroying their agricultural fields, orchards, and vineyards.

Fires, “rocks”, Molotovs, and attempts to infiltrate their communities: two terrorists were captured today at Neria after trying to get into the community.
On the Gaza Border:
*Due to the once-again deteriorating security situation along the border, the IDF repositioned at least one Iron Dome battery to an undisclosed location near the border today.
*Now that the Palestinian terrorists in Gaza are outfitting their drones to carry explosive cargoes weighing up to 25 kg, the IDF Southern Command has issued anti-drone guns to our soldiers in order to shoot them down.

The use of drones to attack our soldiers is yet another example of news that has been suppressed by the IDF. Few people know it, but an IDF tank was almost destroyed several weeks ago when a bomb dropped from a Hamas drone exploded beside it.
The Netanyahu pre-indictment farce will end in October . . .
As you know, dear reader, the Israel Police have recommended that PM Netanyahu be indicted for his role in a number of cases. The next step in the process is for a hearing to be held in which Netanyahu is allowed to present limited evidence in his defense. After that hearing, a decision will be made to indict or not indict on each charge.

The farce about this is that Netanyahu has been doing everything in his power to delay the hearing. First, it was to be held in April, but then there was an election, then it was to be held on July 10 but it was postponed until October 2 at Netanyahu’s request.
Now with new elections scheduled for September 17, Netanyahu had asked for yet another postponement. However, the Attorney General’s office flatly rejected that request yesterday, and said the court hearing will take place on October 2 as planned.
So, if you can imagine this, we might well find ourselves on October 2 with PM Netanyahu attempting to form a Coalition government while at the same time defending himself against possible indictments in court.
By the way, the announcement yesterday left little doubt that Netanyahu will be indicted because it said that the hearing on October 2 would not delve into the details of each case.

Israel’s Eye of Sauron
As all of you Lord of the Rings fans know, the Dark Tower of Sauron in Mordor was the home of the Eye of Sauron. That Eye, which was placed on top of the highest tower, evilly kept watch over all the residents of Middle-earth.
Last year, when my family was on its annual pilgrimmage to Eilat, we were about 40 km south of Be’ersheva when everyone in the car suddenly yelled: “What’s that?”
What we saw was a giant tower rising out of the Negev. The tower was glowing at the top, with what appeared to be two large sundogs refracting light on either side. It looked something like this:
Actually, the tower we saw was much higher with the light effect on both sides.
There was no sign anywhere to let us know what in the world it was, and we really did feel like it was something out of science fiction.
We traveled on to Eilat, but as soon as we got there, we went online and discovered that what we had seen was Tower 1 of the new Ashalim Power Station, and that it is the tallest solar power tower in the world measuring 260 meters in height.
What we couldn’t see from ground level was this:
Tower 1 is surrounded by 50,600 computer-controlled heliostats (essentially mirrors) spread over 988 acres of land. They are computer controlled to follow the sun.
Quoting from the project website, when fully complete Ashalim will have “half a million mirrors (cleaned twice weekly)[which] will collect the sun’s heat from any angle and transfer it through 203 kilometers of glass-insulated steel pipes that absorb the radiation. The radiation will heat thermal oil flowing through the pipes to 390 degrees Celsius. The hot oil will then turn water into steam to drive a turbine generating enough power for 60,000 homes.”
Yesterday, the plant–the world’s largest thermo-solar power plant–went on line already providing energy for homes in the area.

Addendum: Our family is looking forward to this year because it was also announced yesterday that tourists will be able to go up Tower 1 to survey the entire amazing scene!
