The News on the Israeli Street

Palestinian terror in Judea and Samaria:

Numerous “rock” and Molotov attacks took place at such places as Adam, the T-Junction near Tekoa, and between Shilo and Sinjil.

Palestinian terror on the Gaza border:

The Qatari extortion money was doled out and the fishing range was extended from 5 to 6 miles, and guess what?

Nothing changed. Dozens of more explosive devices were ballooned into southern Israel with resulting fires:

Another fire near Kfar Azza yesterday.

Another fire near Kfar Aza yesterday.

And another fire near Nahal Oz yesterday:

Note the two rows of flames--one straight ahead, and the other to the right of the photo.

Note the two rows of flames–one straight ahead, and the other to the right of the photo.

Other fires were started at Alumim and in the Eshkol Region.

The farce at Khan Al-Ahmar . . .

The Regavim Movement which keeps an eye on illegal Palestinian settlements in Judea and Samaria was at the Supreme Court again yesterday demanding that the Court enforce its order that Khan Al-Ahmar be destroyed.

You will recall that PM Netanyahu has repeatedly promised that the settlement will be destroyed “soon.” His most recent promises came during the election campaign in March and April.

Of course, Netanyahu’s promises are empty.

Khan Al-Ahmar with its 180 squatters is still standing, and no one seems to know why.

So, guess who was fighting against Regavim at the Court yesterday? None other than our own Netanyahu government–which now wants a delay until December 16.

What is amazing is that the Netanyahu government has no problem razing all or parts of Jewish communities, but cannot bring itself to raze one illegal Palestinian settlement.

Precisely The Right Moment Of History:

Annex Area C Now!

There is a scene in the movie “Patton” where the General looks out at a smoldering battlefield and laments that he is not being given the fuel to power his tanks toward Berlin. Speaking to his Adjutant, Patton says:

“Now I have precisely the right instrument at precisely the right moment of history and exactly the right place . . . This will change too, very quickly. Like a planet spinning off into the universe. A moment like this won’t come again for 1000 years . . . In ten days, we could be in Berlin.”

We are at such a moment in the history of Israel.  For two thousand years there has been no Jewish sovereignty over Judea and Samaria. A succession of conquerors and interlopers has controlled the land of our ancestors. Romans, Greeks, Arabs, Turks, and others have denied us the reality of our history.

Not to mention ourselves. For what else can we say about the fact that it was an Israeli government led by Yitzhak Rabin and Shimon Peres who gave another set of Arabs–the “Palestinians”–dominion over Areas A and B of Judea and Samaria in the abominable Oslo Accords of 1994.

And we all know where that led. Endless terror in the form of suicide bombers between 1994 and 2007, and endless terror in the form of shootings, stabbings, car rammings, Molotovs, and “rocks” since then.

If there was any silver lining to Oslo, it was that one area, Area C, was not given away. Comprising 60% of Judea and Samaria, Area C is where 100% of Jewish community members live. It is an area that is in every way Israeli, and it should have been annexed to modern Israeli long ago because it has constituted the core of Israel for more than 3000 years.

Places like in Judea and Samaria like Shiloh which was the first home of the Ark of the Covenant and Elon Moreh  where God told Abraham that He would give Israel to the Jews are the heart and soul of the land of Israel.

In the past, it has not been annexed because of two reasons. Israeli governments since 1994 have not possessed the internal will to do so, and Israeli governments since 1994 have always acted as if they were at the mercy of international entities such as the United Nations, the European Union, and even the United States–all of whom have falsely claimed that Area C somehow belonged to the Palestinians.

But something has changed. Something remarkable.

Just last week, American Ambassador to Israel David Friedman said: “Under certain circumstances, I think Israel has the right to retain some, but unlikely all, of the West Bank.”

“Some of the West Bank” is code for Area C or at least a part of Area C.

Then, two days ago, speaking at the Jerusalem Post Annual Conference, Trump emissary Jason Greenblatt doubled down on what Friedman said: “I will let David’s comments stand for themselves, I think he said them elegantly and I support his comment.”

The bottom line is that we suddenly we have an American President who by all accounts is ready to sign off on the annexation of Area C or at least parts of Area C.

This will not last.

Like Patton’s planet spinning off into the universe, this situation will change very quickly. Who knows what tomorrow will bring? Who knows who will be elected in the next American presidential election 17 months from now?

The time has come to recognize that this is a very small window of opportunity to rectify a situation that has struck at the heart of the Jewish people for milleniaThe time has come to seize the opportunity.

The time has come to annex Area C to Israel now.

So why doesn’t Netanyahu act? Why is he paralyzed?

Is it because the leftist bureaucracies of the IDF General Command and Shin Bet are adamantly opposed to annexation because of fear of what the Palestinians might do? Perhaps. Just look at the wholesale round-ups that Shin Bet carries out of Jewish youth in Judea and Samaria, and the way that the IDF General Command cooperates with the PLO and Hamas.

Is it because Netanyahu himself is ideologically opposed to annexing Judea and Samaria? Perhaps. After all, how many times has he backtracked on promises to construct more homes there?

Is it because Netanyahu feels that other items are more important–most notably stopping the Iranian nuclear program and the advance of Iran across the Middle East? Of course Iran is critically important, but so are Judea and Samaria.

Is it because as we have so often written, that Netanyahu is wedded to the status quo, and is reluctant to do anything that might rock the boat? We have seen this marriage played out hundreds of times in Judea, Samaria, Gaza, and on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem.

Whatever the reason, and the reason is probably a combination of all four of the above and more, Netanyahu could always use the United States as an excuse to do nothing. In the past, he could always claim that if Israel’s best friend disapproved of the move, then his hands were tied.

Well, Netanyahu’s hands are no longer tied.

It is time to act now before that planet goes spinning off into the universe and we have to wait another 2000 years.
