Wonderful News!

On March 28, 2002, Rachel and David Gavish and their 20-year-old son Avraham Gavish were all shot to death by a Palestinian terrorist who infiltrated their community at Elon Moreh. Another son, Avigdor Gavish survived.

Four months later in July of 2002, Chana and Yosef Dickstein and their son Shuv-el were all were riding in their car near Mt. Hevron when they were shot to death by Palestinian terrorists. Their daughter, Ayelet Dickstein survived.

So what may you ask is the wonderful news about these horrific terror attacks?

Brought together by a support group for orphans, One Family, Ayelet and Avigdor were married yesterday.

That is wonderful news, and israelstreet wishes the newly married couple all the best!

The News on the Israeli Street

The chorus for annexation of Area C grows louder . . .

Yesterday saw President Trump’s emissary Jason Greenblatt, former Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked, Minister of Public Security Gilad Erdan, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Tzipi Hotovely and others calling for Israel to annex Area C.

Why in the world doesn’t Israel do so now–while there is a window of opportunity?

We will explore that question in tomorrow’s blog.

Palestinian terror yesterday . . .

There were several attempts made by groups of terrorists to infiltrate the border yesterday. All were repulsed by our soldiers.

More explosive balloons started fires at Nir Oz and Nahal Oz. Here is a photo of an unexploded balloon that landed in a field beside Moshav Sde Zvi in the Merhavim Regional Council:balloons

Meanwhile, two more fires were started by Palestinian arsonists in Samaria; the largest was at Elon Moreh.

Egypt reaches an “agreement” with the Israel Electric Corporation . . .

In what was described as a “friendly negotiation”, Egypt agreed to pay the IEC $500 million dollars–instead of the $1.7 billion dollars it had been ordered to do so by the ICC following the collapse of a deal to export gas to Israel following pipeline attacks in the Sinai.

How is it that Israel always comes out on the short end of negotiations like this?

According to the agreement, the amount is to be paid over the next eight years. Do you think that Egypt will ever pay this money?

Let’s repeat it one last time.

No matter how much you may dislike Sara Netanyahu, the only reason she was ruthlessly attacked over the last four years by the Israeli police and the Israeli media was because of an effort to bring down her husband.

It was an effort that failed abysmally.

Can you even remember all the attempts to degrade and besmirch her?

There was “bottle-gate” in which she allegedly received 4000 shekels (about $1100 dollars) in cash for recycling the wine bottles at the family residence–the wine having been bought with state funds.

There was “furniture-gate” in which she allegedly used state funds to buy new patio furniture for the family home in Caesarea.

There was “father-homecare-gate” in which tea bought with state funds was served to her dying father while he lived in the Netanyahu residence.

There was “electrician-gate” in which she allegedly ordered an electrician to repair wiring in the residence on Yom Kippur.

There was “pizza-gate” in which she allowed her teenaged boys to order pizza from a nearby pizzeria instead of having them eat pizza made by the residence cook.

There was “gift-gate” in which she allegedly demanded pink champagne, jewelry, and coats from a wealthy friend.

There was “work-gate” in which it was alleged that she really had been fraudulently paid a salary because she hadn’t really worked as a psychologist/social worker.

There was “YediothAhronot-gate” in which she was accused of trying to get favorable newspaper coverage for her husband.

There was “mistreatment-gate” in which she was accused of shouting imperiously at workers at the residence.

And on and on. The egregious effort to destroy Sara Netanyahu has known no bounds.

In the end, the only thing left to possibly charge her with was “preparedfood-gate.” In this specious case, the food purchased from outside vendors was apparently all served to foreign dignitaries visiting the Netanyahus.

Just think about that for a moment.

The wife of the Prime Minister of Israel was to be tried for ordering catered food for foreign dignitaries to eat when they came to visit the Netanyahu official residence in Jerusalem. Can you even imagine that the wife of the prime minister or president of your country would be charged with such a thing?

But in the end, the charge that she agreed to “plead guilty to” in order to put an end to the witchhunt was “exploiting someone else’s mistaken use of state funds.”

Say what? In return for pleading guilty to what sounds like a misdemeanor at best, she has agreed to pay 55,000 shekels (about $15,300) to the Israeli state treasury. Even the presiding judge seemed embarrassed at demanding this payment–agreeing yesterday to allow her to pay 5000 shekels a month for the next eleven months.

As we noted all along here on israelstreet, Sara Netanyahu was the victim of an unprecedented witch-hunt. There was no fraud, no lies, no inappropriate gifts, no “nothing.”

Sara Netanyahu’s lawyer, Yossi Cohen, summed it all up very well yesterday when the hearing was over:

“They poured out my client’s blood. 20 million shekels (more that 5.5 million dollars) was spent in this investigation. They interrogated her as if she were the head of a criminal organization. What did they find at the end? A few trays of food . . . The goal was to topple her husband and the government.”
