Atrocious Photo Of The Day

This photo of a laughing Saeeb Erekat speaking at the annual J Street convention last week has just emerged.

This photo of a laughing Saeeb Erekat speaking at the annual J Street convention last week has just emerged.

Despite the fact that PLO “Chief Negotiator” Erekat constantly does everything within his power to delegitimize Israel in every world venue and give talks about how Jerusalem has no Jewish history, he was regaled in almost heroic fashion at J Street receiving numerous ovations for statements that suggested (among other things) dividing Jerusalem and ethnically cleansing Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria.

But Erekat’s appearance and reception should not surprise anyone. J Street has long been the mouthpiece of the PLO, helping spreading its hateful incitement whenever it has a chance.

The News on the Israeli Street

Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .

On the Gaza border:

Hikers in the Horesh Badim area of the Eshkol Region yesterday discovered a booby-trapped “book” along a popular hiking trail. The “book” had apparently been attached to balloons that Palestinian terrorists in Gaza sent into southern Israel as they did this one four months ago–a book that contained a compartment inside with a plastic explosive:

It was attached to this book written in Hebrew.

This book was defused by sappers back in June.

The hikers reported their finding to the police who issued this statement:

“We reiterate – vigilance must be shown . . . and whenever a suspicious object is identified – do not come near it, do not touch it, and immediately report it to the Eshkol Hotline or the Israel Police.”

The 24th annual Yitzhak Rabin rally last night . . .

Benny Gantz speaking last night in Tel Aviv.

Benny Gantz speaking last night in Tel Aviv.

The huge rally held in Rabin Square in Tel Aviv was supposed to have been a night honoring the legacy of Yitzhak Rabin who was murdered on November 4, 1995.

A legacy which was severely tainted by the disastrous Oslo Accords that Rabin was primarily responsible for engineering.

However, the Israeli left–which refuses to give up on Oslo–has turned the anniversary of Rabin’s assassination into a political festival.

Thus it was last night that the rally was less about Rabin and more about Benny Gantz and his Kahol Lavan Party. In rhythm with anti-Netanyahu chants, Gantz solemnly intoned that he would not let “hatred” become mainstreamed in Israeli life–and he implied that it was hatred inspired by the likes of Netanyahu which led to Rabin’s murder back in 1995.

Gantz was continually interrupted by thunderous applause throughout his speech.

By the way, how many times and at how many political rallies of the left like the one last night have we heard leftists rant venomous hatred toward the Sephardic population of Israel–and anyone else who disagrees with them?

The IDF: Always Looking For Excuses

The IDF dissembling that went on last night on Israeli television concerning the rocket barrage on Sderot on Friday night was an event to behold.

First came a spokesman who said that the IDF was “not surprised” by the launches of rockets. In fact, the IDF was “just waiting for Islamic Jihad to act.”

Stop and think about this for a moment.

The IDF knew that missiles would be launched and did nothing to stop the launches. As we have often stated here at OneIsrael, the IDF has become a completely reactive military force when it comes to Gaza; it would never even consider a proactive, preemptive strike.

Second, the same spokesman crowed that the IDF and the government had gone out of its way to treat Islamic Jihad and Hamas with “silk gloves” to try to forestall the expected missile strike. The spokesman patted the IDF on the back for facilitating more goods passing into Gaza, expanding the fishing zone, and making sure that Qatari blackmail money was paid on time.

Again, think about this for a moment.

Here we have our IDF being proud of everything it does to appease the terrorists in Gaza.

Just incredible.

Following this, we had the IDF spokesman actually drumming up sympathy for the “poor Palestinians” in Gaza. According to the IDF,  Gazans “are in despair, unemployment is rising, infrastructure is not adequate.”

The leaders of the IDF General Command have now become sociologists above all else. The terrorists are now victims. How can we wage war against such “suffering” people in Gaza?

Your humble servant wants to throw up.

Finally, we were told by the IDF spokesman that Gaza just isn’t a main priority anymore (was it ever?). Instead Israel is more focused on the nexus between Iran and Hezbollah–and the overland terror route from Tehran to Beirut. What is more, he said, if the IDF actually attacks the terrorists in Gaza, we might expect a major response from Iran.

Say what?

First we couldn’t attack Gaza because of Hezbollah, then because of the problems on the Syrian border, and now because Iran “might” attack?

What utter pusillanimity. What has happened to the IDF General Command?

Infused with leftist generals and commanders, all the IDF does anymore is find excuses not to defend the citizens of southern Israel.
