The News on the Israeli Street

The newest polls . . .

Suddenly and ridiculously, we are beset by polls again as the prospects for a third election loom larger. The 21 day deadline for a Knesset member to garner 61 signatures is now down to 10 days. If no one does so, the Knesset will dissolve and a new election will take place.

The newest poll this morning is from the left-wing newspaper Maariv which says that if the election were held today, the results would be:

Kahol Lavan 35, Likud led by Netanyahu 33

However, the Right Block headed by Netanyahu would have 54 seats and the Left Block headed by Kahol Lavan would have 45 seats. The outliers are the Joint Arab List and the Yisrael Beiteinu Party of Avigdor Lieberman.

Pollsters are now also asking what if there is no Netanyahu–what if Gideon Saar is leading the Likud party? In such a scenario:

Likud would only win 31 seats–but the Right Block would take 56 seats.

The Jordanians’ new demand . . .

Not a day goes by that the Jordanians do not viciously attack Israel in endless international forums, and not a day goes by that the Jordanians do not make another demand of Israel.

And not a day goes by that Israel does not accede to that Jordanian demand.

Yesterday, Jordan demanded that Israel turn over the body of dead terrorist Sami Abu Diak who was sentenced in 2001 to three life sentences for the brutal shooting murder of 62-year-old Israeli Ilya Krivich of Homesh.   Krivich was gunned down in an ambush as he passed through the Palestinian settlement of Silad a-Dahar. Diak also was convicted of involvement in the murder of three Palestinians accused by the PLO of collaboration with Israel.

Diak died of cancer two days ago at Assaf Harofe Medical Center.

Why do the Jordanians want his body?

So they can celebrate the terrorist murderer as a hero–just as they did the Jordanian soldier who slaughtered the Israeli schoolgirls many years ago.

Based on the incoming missile alert siren, known in Hebrew as “tsava adom” (red color), the movement is urging Israelis and other people around the world to express solidarity with those Israelis whose lives are constantly punctuated by tsava adoms.

We are all red in solidarity.

People are being asked to wear a red ribbon, and Israeli social media has been inundated today with photos of people and animals featuring the color red.

Why don’t you show support for the beleaguered children, women, and men of southern Israel today?

Wear a red shirt, ribbon, or something else. If you are not in Israel, people may not know the symbolism, but you will.

What have you done for Israel today?
