Sa’ar made this statement this morning:

“I intend to run for victory. One always has to have the goal of winning and respecting the democratic decision that is made. If I am elected Likud leader, I will lead the Party to victory and form a government headed by me. It is perfectly clear that if we continue on this current route, we will not get anywhere better than what happened in the last two elections.”

TODAY’S BLOG:

Does Israel Have The Backbone?

Yesterday saw a deluge of threats aimed at stopping Israel’s annexation of the Jordan valley:

*Jordan once again threatened to tear up its peace treaty with Israel.

*The PLO once again threatened to cut off all ties with Israel.

*Attorney General Mandelblit said that the European Union would greatly expand its boycott against Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria.

*Attorney General Mandelblit also said that annexation could lead to international criminal investigations against IDF officials and civil servants working in Judea and Samaria.

Your humble servant has only one thing to say about all of these threats: hogwash!

Whatever peace treaty Israel has with Jordan is cold as ice. Israel receives nothing in return for handing over cheap water, cheap electricity, and administrative control over the Temple Mount in Jerusalem to the Jordanians–in addition to propping up King Abdullah.

Whatever agreements that Israel has with the PLO are as cold as ice. The PLO foments terror against Israel in a multitude of ways ranging from paying salaries to terrorists who murder or attempt to murder Israelis to including incendiary anti-Israel chapters in elementary schoolchildrens’ textbooks.

The European Union is becoming like Germany in the 1930s as far as Jews are concerned. Any person walking down the street in Paris, Berlin, or Brussels wearing a kipa is subjected to derision and possible assault. Jewish goods emanating from Judea and Samaria are already labeled by the EU so that they can be boycotted by Europeans.

IDF officials and civil servants are already subject to fraudulent criminal investigations by the International Criminal Court. Numerous cases have already been brought in reference to Israel’s defending itself in various wars. Annexation of the Jordan valley will be just one more item on the prosecutor’s list.

In sum, the question is simply: does Israel have the backbone to stand up to these threats and do what is right for our existence?

Your humble servant has his doubts.
