Quote of the Day

“For 65 of my 81 years, I have [been] at universities all over the country and all over  the world. There is no more important event in those 65 years to turn universities away from being bastions of hatred and discrimination than this executive order being signed today.  It is a game changer. It will go down in history as one of the most important events in the 2000 year battle against anti-Semitism. Thank you Mr. President. You did a great great job . . . and you will be remembered by history for all time for having signed this very important order.”

The News on the Israeli Street

Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .

On the Gaza Border:

You may remember that the leadership of both Hamas and Islamic Jihad were in Cairo last week supposedly negotiating a long-term “truce” with the Israel. After those meetings were over, Hamas leader Ismail Haniya flew on to such locations as Ankara Turkey where he met with Turkish PM and virulent anti-Semite, Taycip Erdogan.

Yesterday, both Hamas and Islamic Jihad declared that there would be no “truce” with Israel.

In Judea and Samaria:

*At the Jat Junction, a Palestinian woman started waving a butcher knife out of the window of her car and screaming “Death to Jews!” She was taken into custody.

*Palestinian terrorists using “rocks” and Molotovs attacked Israelis between Ginsapot and Ramat Gilad, Ofra, the Tekoa Junction, Luban a-Sharqiya, on Highway 55 at Azzun, in the Aleppo Mountains near Kiryat Arba, Mishmash, Beit Rima,  and at the T-Junction in Gush Etzion among other places.

Great news on the transportation front . . .

The Jerusalem-Tel Aviv Express train.

The Jerusalem-Tel Aviv Express train.

Next Saturday evening, December 21, will mark the first trip on the nonstop Tel Aviv-Jerusalem rail line.

The train ride will take 32 minutes and is expected to reduce the continuous traffic mess on Highway 1 between the two cities.

TODAY’S BLOG:

Hi Ho, Hi Ho, It’s On To Another Election We Go!

And why?

Because no leader of any party could climb out of his tree and compromise with any other leader. Whether we are talking about Netanyahu, Gantz, Lieberman, Peretz, Deri, or Litzman, they all showed a deplorable lack of common sense.

And for what?

There is no reason to think that the election on March 2 will turn out any differently.

Kahol Lavan (Gantz) will not be able to get to 61 votes without the Joint Arab List and Lieberman’s Yisrael Beiteinu. And if we know anything by now, it is that Lieberman will never join a government which is supported directly or indirectly by the Joint Arab List.

Likud (Netanyanu) will not be able to get to 61 votes without Lieberman. And if we know anything by now, the animosity between Lieberman and Netanyahu runs so deep that we have now been forced into three elections.

So beware.

We are already seeing polls here in Israel showing that if the election were held tomorrow, the center-left Kahol Lavan coalition would win 60 seats.  That is just fake news. Remove the Joint Arab List which you must do, and the center-left has only about 47 seats.  Even if Kahol Lavan wins 4o or even 45 seats, it would still not be able to form a coalition.

However, an important development is going to take place. Check the following timeline:

December 26: There will be internal elections in Likud. As we have been describing in previous blogs, Gideon Sa’ar is making a concerted effort to dislodge Netanyahu at the top of the ticket. Does he have a chance to do so? Probably not, but we will see.

Gideon Sa’ar as the head of Likud would certainly change the election dynamic. On the one hand, Netanyahu supporters might be less likely to vote; on the other, voters that are supporting Kahol Lavan as a protest against Netanyahu might return to Likud.

January 14: Each party must submit a list of who is running.

February 17: Political advertising can begin on television.

March 2: Election day.
