“Ahmed Tibi, like other members of the Joint Arab List, is doing damage to the Israeli Parliament and the integration of Israeli Arabs into Israeli society. . . .  Our Jordan Valley will be ours forever. Our best response is to multiply the number of residents in the valley and make Ma’ale Ephraim an urban center.”

Knesset member and leading member of the Kahol Lavan Party, Yoav Handel

Handel was speaking in response to Ahmed Tibi’s threat to have the Arab Joint List completely disavow itself from Kahol Lavan unless the party comes out against annexation of the Jordan Valley.

Handel’s statement could have been made by anyone on the “right” in Israel, and the fact that it was made by a member of a party that is not thought of as being on the “right”, says a lot about where Israeli politics are these days.

The News on the Israeli Street

Palestinian terror in Judea and Samaria in the last 24 hours . . .

*Palestinian terrorists tried to burn down the security fence at New Giv’on with Molotovs.

*Palestinian terrorists tried to kill Israeli motorists with “rocks” and Molotovs at Tekoa, Azzun, Sha’are Binyamin, on Road 465 near Umm Safa, on Road 55 near Nabi Elias, Beit Ummar, Hawara, and at numerous other places along Road 60.

What does “rock” mean?

Everyday we report on “rock” and Molotov attacks in Judea and Samaria as we just did above.

Let’s take one example today of what “rock” means. Notice that “Azzun”, as usual, is on the list above. Does this mean that a “rock” was thrown at only one Israeli car?

Far from it. When you see a place on the list, you can be sure that there were multiple attacks on multiple cars. For example, there were more than a dozen “rock” throwing attacks at Azzun yesterday. Here are photos of three of the cars that were hit:

Azzun 1

A direct hit on a windshield. No one was physically wounded.

The back side passenger window was shattered. Both children in the back seat were wounded.

The front windshield was hit. The driver managed to maintain control of the car and make it to safety. Occupants of the car were treated for trauma.

All three of these attacks took place in a 30 minute period yesterday.

So, the next time you see a place mentioned in the list of places where attacks took place, remember that there were probably numerous attacks at that place.

Pre-election futility . . .

On the left: the Labor Party merged with Meretz today with both parties proclaiming that their goal is to bring down Netanyahu. The truth is that Meretz was teetering perilously close to not making the threshhold in recent polls, and this merger ensures its survival. The merger decision appears to leave Ehud Barak’s Democratic Camp out in the cold.

On the right: the New Right Party which was led by Ayelet Shaked in the last election announced that it would run independently in the March election. With Shaked no longer sole party leader, the New Right’s votes are bound to decrease. And what about the other parties on the right–National Union, Jewish Home, and Otzma? They can’t agree on anything and are thereby hurting the right’s chances.

The only subject that anyone in any party is talking about is Netanyahu. There is an amazing lack of discussion about any of the other huge challenges facing Israel.

Israel’s High Court of Justice Greenlights Another Mosque On The Temple Mount

Yet another decision from the Israel High Court of Justice has left everyone shaking their heads in disbelief today. Not that it really should. After all, the Islamic Wakf that rules the Temple Mount has just been enabled by the Court to create the third new mosque on the Mount in the last twenty years.

What makes the entire decision even more ludicrous is the dictum that PM Netanyahu and his various governments have followed for the last decade: to wit, “there must be no changes in the status quo on the Temple Mount.”

It is now more obvious than ever that this dictum only applies to Jewish worshipers. Muslims can change the status quo anytime they feel like it.

The issue before the Court this time was the mosque that was set up at the Gate of Mercy in 2019. That a mosque has been set up is not questioned; photos of it abound on the internet:

The transforming of the Gate into a Mosque was challenged by the Regavim movement which pointed out that the so-called “Rat Gates” as well as “Solomon’s Stables” had already been turned into mosques by the Wakf. It also pointed out that these transformations had destroyed countless artifacts from the First and Second Temples.

To no avail.

In sum, the Justices blathered:  “This court has often ruled that the unique circumstances of the Temple Mount and the over-sensitivity of the place require careful precaution when it comes to judicial review of what is being done. The practice we are dealing with in this regard is that the court will not intervene in these decisions except in very exceptional cases, where the decision is materially distorted, or with extreme unreasonableness.”

This is just nonsensical jargon for “We will not intervene to stop the Islamic Wakf from doing anything.” Once more, Israeli sovereignty over our holiest place has been shown to be nonexistent.
