The Absolutely Correct Quote of the Day

“The Israel Supreme Court has officially taken over the Knesset. Today it has turned the Knesset Speaker into a rubber stamp, with the Knesset and the plenary being run by the Supreme Court justices.”

Knesset Member Bezalel Smotrich

The News on the Israeli Street

The daily Corona update . . .

*As of this hour (8 pm), the Health Ministry reports that there are 1238 confirmed cases of Corona in Israel. The rapid rise is mainly attributed to outbreaks in orthodox and ultra-orthodox communities. 24 people are described as being in a “difficult” situation.

*Miraculously, only 1 person has died–the 88 year-old-man that we have previously described who had a heart attack several day before being tested positive for Corona. Nevertheless, if you can believe this, the cretinous and politically biased Israeli media has been constantly attacking PM Netanyahu over the last few days for ordering sheltering in place and business closures.

*On the economic front, the unemployment rate rose to 17.6% yesterday as 62,000 new unemployed have been added to rolls amidst widespread business closures.

*The next two steps that are being considered are a general closure of all businesses and services except for essential services, and a lockdown of all Israelis 65 years of age and older.

*In the last 24 hours, more than 100 Israelis who have tested positive for Corona have been detained by the police for not self-quarantining.

*The U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem as well as the U.S. Consulate in Tel Aviv have canceled all appointments for U.S. visa interviews and applications indefinitely.

*All McDonalds restaurants in the country have closed.

Palestinian terror in the last 48 hours . . .

A Palestinian terrorist was shot and killed near the Na’alin Junction after he had attacked Israeli citizens and as he prepared to throw a “rock” at a military vehicle:

One of the cars hit by the terrorist before he was killed. Note the "rock".

One of the cars hit by the terrorist before he was killed. Note the “rock”.

Other “rock” and Molotov attacks took place at Neve Yair on Road 465, outside of Azzun on Road 55, at Hermesh, Beit Says, the Halhul Bridge, the small Yitzhar Junction, on Highway 90 in the Jordan Valley, at Karmei Tzur, Al-Aruv, at the south Jerusalem Tunnel, the upper community of West Binyamin, Ofra,  and Hizma among other places.

Try to wrap your mind around this, dear reader.

Last Thursday, five girls aged 12-15 were arrested by Israel police (acting in conjunction with the Islamic Wakf) for praying at one of the gates to the Temple Mount. The girls were asking God to end the Corona virus. Yesterday, the case came to the Magistrate’s court, and the police asked that the five girls be removed from the Old City of Jerusalem for 180 days for their “offense” of “disturbing the public order.”

They were immediately released with these comments from the presiding judge and the defense attorney:

“It is puzzling to me that a request of this kind has been made to the court in light of the state of emergency declared and the type of matters that may be held in this court these days.

Jerusalem Magistrate Judge Eliezer Bialin

“It is unfortunate that the Israeli police are busy these days with a group of girls praying around the gates of the Temple Mount to stop the Corona epidemic rather than dealing with more urgent cases. . . The court rejected the police request and made it clear to the police that it had to deal with more urgent cases. In emergency, the courts do not employ idle requests. The judge also did well to make it clear to the police that the girls have a right to pray at the gates of the Temple Mount.”

The Knesset vs The Supreme Court:

Israel At The Point Of Institutional Crisis

Once again, the Israel Supreme Court has weighed into Knesset matters on the side of the Israeli left.

This time, the Court has ordered Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein to respond 9:00 pm tonight on whether he will hold the vote on the election of a new Knesset Speaker by Wednesday at 5:00 p.m.

The clear implication is that if Edelstein does not respond, the Court will order the election for Knesset Speaker.

As you know from previous OneIsrael blogs, the anti-Bibi group in the Knesset which includes the same terrorist Balad Party that the same Supreme Court allowed to run in the March election is attempting to take over the government by taking control of Knesset committees.

In order to accomplish this, the anti-Bibi group needs the Knesset speakership.

As we have often asked in recent years as the Supreme Court has struck down Knesset law after Knesset law and constantly interfered whenever it wished into Knesset affairs, why does Israel even have a Knesset? Or even a Prime Minister?

What Israel has is a Supreme Court and High Court of Justice run amok. Let’s hope that Edelstein has the courage to stand up and resist this latest ploy by the Court to run the government.

Addendum (8:30 pm): The left-wing anti-Bibi group that includes the terrorist Balad Party has taken control of the Knesset by gaining control of the central committee that chooses other committees. It is a sad day for Israel; hatred for Netanyahu has outweighed all other considerations–including the continuation of a Zionist state.
