Quotation of the Day

“If the difficult economic situation in the Gaza Strip continues, the border with Israel will warm to the point that organizations in Gaza will put half of the Israeli public into shelters, doubling the number of Israelis with Corona, and losing control of the spread of the virus.”

A Hamas senior official speaking to the Lebanese al-Akhbar newspaper yesterday

Did you follow that?

Hamas is threatening to start firing missiles at southern Israel again, which will force Israelis to huddle together in bomb shelters, which will in turn double the number of Israelis with Corona.

Interestingly, Corona has been found in Gaza–as a result of two infected terrorists returning from Pakistan. Let’s hope they infect every other terrorist in Palstinian Gaza.

TODAY’S BLOG:

A Done Deal Except . . .

In an interview on Israeli television tonight, PM Netanyahu let it be known that the emergency unity government agreement is a done deal–and it is along the lines of what we reported yesterday.

To wit, Netanyahu will serve as prime minister for the next year and a half. During that time Benny Gantz will serve as foreign minister and Gabi Ashkenazi as Defense Minister. At the end of that time period, the situation will revervse with Gantz as prime minister and Netanyahu as foreign minister.

So there you have it right?

Well, not so fast. There are a few hangups.

Specifically:

1. Likud refuses to let Kahol Lavan take over the Knesset speaker post and insists that Yuli Edelstein remain.

2. Likud refuses to give Kahol Lavan the Justice Ministry outright and insists on some kind of shared administration.

3. Likud demands that Gantz agree to the annexation and sovereignty of all Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria.

Given the facts that Kahol Lavan is determined to remove Edelstein, and that Kahol Lavan quad-leader Yair Lapid apparently has his eyes on the Justice Ministry, and that Gantz has declared that he will not agree to Israel’s unilateral annexation and sovereignty over our communities in Judea and Samaria (after declaring that he would), it may be that we are actually far from a done deal and may be headed to another election.

But you never know what you will wake up to tomorrow in Israeli politics.
