The News on the Israeli Street
Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .
A Palestinian terrorist was shot and killed yesterday morning in the Jenin area as she was throwing an IED at our soldiers.
Following the 4 “attacks” on “Hamas infrastructure” two nights ago, nothing has changed because no terrorists were really targeted. Dozens more explosive balloons were launched into southern Israel and about a dozen more fires were started–the largest at the Shokeda Forest and at Nir Am.
The daily Corona (Covid 19) update . . .
As of 8 am this morning (Saturday):

55,313 of these confirmed cases have recovered—an increase of 1,886
776 Israelis are hospitalized
374 are in critical condition–an increase of 16
109 of the most critically ill are on ventilators—an increase of 9
581 have died–an increase of 5
There are 25,678 active cases.
A demonstration of a different sort . . .
Of course there were more anti-Netanyahu protests last night; however, yesterday afternoon saw a large demonstration supporting the prime minister.
A convoy of trucks and cars traveled from Latrun to Jerusalem on Highway one waving Israeli flags and carrying pro-Netanyahu banners.
You can watch a small part of the procession here.

The Iranian Stranglehold on Syria
Over the last three months, we have heard a rash of statements from Israeli politicians claiming either that the Russians have been pushing Iran out of Syria or that the Iranian position in Syria is stronger than ever.
So which is it?
The following map which appeared yesterday tells the tale:
Let’s begin with the legend. Notice the colors that represent who who hold what territory.
For example, note that green represents the Free Syrian Army which hold a swath along the southern and the northern borders–and nothing in between.
The black diagonal lines represent the tiny area remaining to ISIS.
The yellow area just along the northwest border is controlled by the SDF— Syrian Democrat Forces.
The orange color represents what is now controlled by the forces Bashir Al-Assad. As you can see, those forces control almost all of the country.
Or do they?
Now look at all of the small Iranian flags dotting the country–all of which are in the Assad-controlled area. Each one of those flags represents an Iranian military base or outpost or a military base or outpost controlled by an Iranian proxy such as Hezbollah. Note for example how many are lined up along the Israeli Golan Heights.
In total, there are 125 Iranian bases. The largest is the huge, heavily fortified Imam Ali Base on the Iraqi border.
You might also note how Iran has Assad and his forces surrounded with troops on every major border (they don’t need troops along all of the Iraqi border since they already control Iraq, and the Iranians don’t look at Jordan as a threat). Assad couldn’t get rid of the Iranians even if he wanted to.
What is the bottom line?
The Iranians have a stranglehold on Syria and Assad.
They are are not moving anywhere–least of all back to Iran. We can expect that they will continue to consolidate their holdings as close to the Israeli border as possible and continue to wait for the day on which they will attack Israel from Syria, Lebanon, and Gaza.
