Nauseating Quote of the Day

“A gift in honor of my birthday.”

A gleeful Rebecca Vilkomerson, Executive Director Jewish Voice for Peace, referring to the death of Sheldon Adelson.

This quote informs us of just how feared–even to the point of celebrating his death–Sheldon Adelson was by those on the “left” who work endlessly to demean and delegitimize Israel.

Who are the new Israelis?

Not who you might think.

According to immigration expert Dr. Nathanial Fisher, only about 8,000 out of 24,000 who became citizens last year are Jews.

Who are the other 16,000? People from the former Soviet Union whose connection to Judaism was only through a grandfather, migrant workers, Palestinians who married Israeli Arabs, and on and on.

Fisher estimates that there are now more than 500,000 non-Jewish citizens (not counting the nearly 2,000,000 Israeli-Arab Muslim citizens).

TODAY’S BLOG:

A Mighty Friend of Israel Is Gone:

Sheldon Adelson (1933-2021)

Please read Miriam Adelson’s lovingly eloquent tribute to her husband.

Sheldon Adelson: May his memory always be for a blessing.

Sheldon Adelson: May his memory always be for a blessing.

“He was the proudest of Jews, who saw in the State of Israel not only the realization of an historical promise to a unique and deserving people, but also a gift from the Almighty to all of humanity.”

Dr. Miriam Adelson in her tribute to her husband from the linked article above.

We at OneIsrael are sad to report today that Sheldon Adelson died yesterday. While the headlines refer to the fact that he was the owner of multiple casinos and was a Republican mega-donor, what we will remember about Mr. Adelson is that he was always there for Israel.

Whether it was recently providing Jonathan and Esther Pollard with his private plane to fly to Israel, or creating the new Medical School at Ariel University, or establishing a drug clinic to serve Tel Aviv, or spending nearly half a billion dollars to fly young Jews to Israel on the Birthright Program, or revolutionizing the Israel newspaper business with his Israel Hayom, or funding the Israeli space program SpaceIL, or pushing President Trump to move the American Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and urging him to withdraw from the Iranian nuclear deal, or  . . . or . . .  or. . . Sheldon Adelson was a man who put his money and influence where his love was.

In Israel.

He was always known for his rather brusque demeanor and hardline negotiating style, yet among those who knew him best it was his warm humanitarianism and gentle humor that is being remembered today.

Growing up dirt poor in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston, Adelson liked to joke “Mine is a rags-to-riches story, but we couldn’t afford the rags.”

We here at OneIsrael extend our deepest condolences to his wife Miriam and to his children and grandchildren. We are comforted in the knowledge Miriam will continue the legacy that her husband created.
