On the political front . . .

PM Netanyahu is apparently moving heaven and earth to placate Naftali Bennett of the Yamina Party with promises of a prime minster rotation agreement and numerous right-wing appointees in ministerial positions. At the same time, he continues to attack Smotrich of the National Zionist Party.

One faux plum Netanyahu is apparently offering is a date certain on which he will relinquish the prime ministership. As we have previously written, if you really believe that Netanyahu will relinquish power, you should buy some waterfront property in the middle of the Sahara.

TODAY’S BLOG:

The Descent Into Appalling Indecency

Political discourse in Israel has lost all semblance of civility. Here are some of the comments heard today:

From Yair Golan of the left-wing Meretz Party:

“The members of the Religious Zionism Party are representatives of the “Racism and Evil” Party.”

From Sadi Ben Sheerit:

“Benjamin Netanyahu is the same as Adolf Hitler. Something must be done even at the cost of my own life.”

From an unnamed verbal assailant in the Knesset who attacked Noam Party Legislator Avi Maoz as he made his way to the podium to speak during the Holocaust ceremony:

“Aren’t you ashamed to attend such a ceremony in memory of those who were burned in the Holocaust? Too bad your parents were not burned too so that you would have never lived.”

Can you believe this? From a neo Nazi maybe, but from an Israeli–and in the Knesset.

A security guard apprehended the man and then Maoz told the history of his family–about how his mother and sisters survived Auschwitz, hut his mother’s grandparents, three of their children, and two of Maoz’s uncles were murdered and burned.

The loss of decency in Israeli politics is sadly a reflection of the vitriol ripping apart the thread of the Israel society.
