A Quote That Illustrates The Definition of Insanity

How many times over the years has the IDF sent exactly the same message to “the people of Gaza” that COGAT  head Maj. Gen. Rassan Aliyan sent yesterday:

“Are you really ready to endanger your daily routine for balloons? Aren’t you tired of this circle that leads you nowhere? Are balloons worth reducing your fishing space? Maintaining security and tranquility in the region will help improve the economy.”

Why can’t the idiots in our IDF General Command understand that the people of Gaza could care less about their “daily routine”,  “fishing space”, or the Gaza “economy”?

The “poor” Gazans rejoice in watching explosive balloons incinerate Israeli fields and forests; they revel in an abundance of food that makes them one of the most obese populations in the world; and they wonder why should they work when Qatar hands out monthly paychecks and international “humanitarian” organizations spend tens of millions in Gaza.

Somehow, these obvious points escape our IDF humanitarians. Again and again. Hence the famous definition of insanity attributed to Einstein about doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.

The News on the Israeli Street

Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours  . . .

The quote above can also be applied to the events along the Gaza border over the weekend.

To begin with, numerous explosive balloons were launched into southern Israel striking various places in the Eshkol region. One such balloon even detonated on a house in  Kibbutz Be’eri causing extensive damage. In response to these terror attacks, the IAF struck “targets’ in Gaza.

Well not exactly. Here is a photo of the result of one attack:

A large crater where an IAF bomb struck trees, bushes, and dirt.

A large crater where an IAF bomb struck trees, bushes, and dirt.

This is what is typically bombed. No terrorists wounded, no terrorists killed, and no ability to launch balloons affected. Here is what Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum had to say about the “attacks”: ” . . . the hollow demonstrations of power and the empty attacks by Israel did not frighten the young people in Gaza.”

Hollow demonstrations of power and empty attacks: Barhoum is exactly correct.

Was there ever any question? . . .

No reader of OneIsrael could possibly have any doubts that the Lebanese Army is in bed with Hezbollah.

The events of the last two days prove it beyond all doubt.

As we noted yesterday, the Hezbollah portable missile truck that fired 19-21 missiles into northern Israel was seized as it passed through a Druze village on the Lebanese side of the Israel-Lebanon border. In particular, perhaps you remember the terrified terrorist who was sitting in the back seat before being dragged out of the truck and beaten along with his fellow terrorists by the Druze:

Almost immediately, the Hezbollah men were released amidst joyous celebrations:

The daily Corona update . . .

6,535 Israelis have died of the virus since the pandemic began last year. This is an increase of 60 since a week ago, meaning that the death rate is now about 9 Israelis a day.

545 Israelis are now hospitalized: 324 of these are classified as “in serious condition”, and another 50 are in “critical condition” on ventilators.

3,849 Israelis were confirmed positive yesterday; the overall positive test rate was 3.79%. There are now 31,736 active cases in Israel–bringing to 897,326 the total number of Israelis infected.

412,000 Israelis have now received the 3rd dose of vaccine.

As we have previously reported, starting tomorrow a person will need “a green pass” to enter “halls and event gardens, conferences, cultural and sports events, restaurants, gyms and studios, hotels, cinemas, and synagogues, mosques, and churches with more than 50 worshipers.”

Linoy Ashram’s Spectacular Victory Spawns A Predictably Ugly Reaction

You almost certainly know the news by now: the first Israeli woman in history has won a gold medal in the Olympics.

Linoy Ashram won the gold in rhythmic gymnastics yesterday finishing 0.15 points ahead of Dina Averina of Russia.

Linoy performed spectacularly in the 4 events of the competition, and in doing so broke the Russian stranglehold on the event that the Russians had held since the event entered the Olympics back in 1996.

What you probably cannot imagine is the exuberant joy felt here in Israel where every Israeli (except for the orthodox) was glued to the television and living and dying with every performance. When Hatikvah was played at the victory ceremony as the Israeli flag was raised, there were not many dry eyes in the country.

After the final event, the Russians lodged the second of two inquiries in an attempt to raise Averina’s score. That inquiry, like the first, was denied with no change made in her score. Unfortunately, that was followed by press conferences and tweets alleging that Averina was robbed by “strange judging.”

As of this morning, the Russian Olympic Committee is demanding that the International Gymnastics Federation carry out a probe into the judging.

Talk about sore losers.

But worse than that, the Russian reaction has spawned a social media flood of Averina supporters accusing the judges of “Jewish bias” and even including sickening threats against Linoy if she does not “give back her medal.”

Most assuredly, Linoy will not give back a medal she fought so hard to win, and the Russian complaints and demands will go nowhere. She will be welcomed home on Wednesday as a national hero.

Nevertheless, the aftermath once again exposes the world for what it is.
