Disastrous Photo of the Morning

The above is what much of the forest around Jerusalem looks like today. Fires are still smoldering, and there are “combustion points” at Beit Meir, Mt. Eitan, and Ksalon West but firefighters believe that the worst may be over if the wind does not kick up.

Of course, the worst is not over for the people who lost their homes and livelihoods.

The News on the Israeli Street

Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .

A terror attack was thwarted yesterday when a Palestinian terrorist wearing an IDF uniform was spotted near the entrance to a Jewish community. He was carrying a shotgun, knives, and IEDs.

The daily Corona update . . .

8,646 more Israelis were confirmed yesterday as having Corona bringing to 53,169 active cases in the country.

The positive test rate was 6.2% yesterday.

948,058 Israelis have tested positive since the pandemic began last year.

559 Israelis are in serious condition with another 89 in critical condition on ventilators.

6,694 Israelis have died of the virus an increase of 26 since yesterday.

Nearly 50% of the patients on heart-lung ECMO machines in Israeli hospitals are unvaccinated.

Health Ministry officials are now warning that if the “South American mutation” reaches Israel, the country will be closed. If experience has shown anything, it is that there is no way to hermetically seal Israel from new mutations.

The Supreme Court punts again . . .

In a totally unsurprising ruling, the Supreme Court ordered that the eviction of the Palestinian squatters from the Shimon HaTzaddik compound in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of Jerusalem be delayed yet again. The illegal squatters were supposed to have been thrown out at the beginning of August.

Actually, the Court ruling means little. PM Bennett in his continuing turn to the left had already announced that he would not obey a Court order to evict.

Talk about illegal Palestinians . . .

The Regavim Movement published evidence today that during the past 12 years–mainly under the eyes of successive Netanyahu governments–the PLO with European Union funding has built 100 illegal schools in Area C.

Positive business reports (for the time being) . . .

Unemployment dropped from 9% in the first half of July to 7.6% in the second half.

A large spike of 12.4% in GDP occurred in the last quarter accompanying a 36.3% rise in private consumption expenditures as the public emerged from Corona restrictions. There was also a 18.1% increase in exports of goods and services.

TODAY’S BLOG:

Empty Words From A Hollow Man

“Our enemies will get to know the rules. We will not tolerate violence and a slow drip of missiles from Gaza. Our patience has run out.”

PM Naftali Bennett–speaking on June 20, one week after becoming prime minister–at Mt. Herzl in a memorial ceremony for those killed in the 2014 war with Hamas and Islamic Jihad.

The location of the missile attack on southern Israel yesterday.

The location of the missile attack on southern Israel yesterday.

At 1:32 yesterday afternoon, incoming missile sirens blared for Erez, Nir Am, Sderot, and Ivim–sending more than 25,000 Israelis running for their bomb shelters . One missile apparently struck an “open area”; the other was intercepted by an Iron Dome interceptor.

We are 24 hours later, and there has been absolutely no Israeli response–and this from a Bennett-Lapid government that repeatedly pledged that it would respond to each and every missile and balloon launched from Gaza.

Now comes news that, in fact, Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for the attack, and that PM Bennett and so-called “Defense Minister” ordered the IDF not to respond.

Yes, you read that correctly.

Our prime minister and defense minister ordered our military not to respond to the attack.

Does this remind you of any other attack and non-response lately?

It should because it was only eleven days ago that Hezbollah launched 19 missiles at northern Israel. The IDF response to that attack was to announce that Hezbollah did not really mean to hit anything because the missiles all landed in “open spaces.”

Except for the one that almost exploded in downtown Kiryat Shmona.

And all of this from Lebanon after PM Bennett declared that Israel will not tolerate any missiles from Lebanon.

Is this PM Bennett’s new strategy? Just let terrorists in the north and south fire at will at our men, women, and children and blather that we will not tolerate it?

What a pathetic commentary on his supposed leadership.

Empty words from a hollow man.
