TODAY’S BLOG:

The Unprecedented Escape From Gilboa Prison

Let’s try to put what happened last night into perspective.

The Gilboa prison is one of Israel’s highest level security prisons–highest level because the technology there is supposed to be the most sophisticated, and highest level because the prisoners there are some of the worst–ones who have murdered Israelis.

So what happened last night?

Using a hole that they had dug in the floor of the bathroom, six prisoners escaped through a sewage line that came out just outside the wall of the prison, right under a guard tower:

The watchtower under which the terrorists escaped.

The watchtower under which the terrorists escaped.

Once out of the sewage channel, still right under the watchtower, they changed clothes and began walking toward Jenin.

No one in the prison even recognized they were gone until about 3 am this morning when a nearby farmer called the police to report suspicious people moving through one of his fields.

Who were the six?

The six escapees.

The six escapees.

The worst of these extreme security prisoners is 1039804 Zakaria Zabidi, battalion commander of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade of the PLO in Jenin who is responsible for numerous terrorist attacks including one in Jenin in which 6 Israelis were killed.

At this moment, the police along with Border Police fighters and the army are engaged in an intensive manhunt. Security officers in the surrounding communities have set up checkpoints on roads running through and around their communities.

What is the bottom line?

The entire episode bears witness to the extreme negligence of the Israel Prison Service (IPS). The IPS has often been criticized in the past for the extremely lenient conditions inside prisons which have enabled prisoners to smuggle everything into them including items such as cellphones–and even to smuggle virtually everything out of prisons such as semen.

Yes, semen. An untold number of babies have been born to the wives of prisoners from semen smuggled out of prison.

In short, no one should be surprised about what happened.
