Funny Quote of the Morning:

“The president [Mahmoud Abbas] did not sleep all night because of his concern about Jerusalem.”

Mahmoud al-Habash, senior advisor to unelected Palestinian “President” Mahmoud Abbas

Funny. And we thought he didn’t sleep because of being obese, a chain-smoker, and a target of Hamas (not necessarily in that order).

The News On the Israeli Street

Palestinian terror news in the last 24 hours . . .

*Remember Reuven Shmerling, the 70-year-old man who was murdered by two Palestinian terrorists in Kfar Qasim back on October 4? And remember how the Israeli police at first wanted to claim it was somehow related to “a monetary dispute”?

This morning the gruesome details of the murder were revealed.

Among other “small” details that the Police did not want to release was the fact that Shmerling was beheaded. And mutilated almost beyond recognition.

*Sgt. Ron Yitzhak Kukia, the IDF soldier murdered who was brutally stabbed to death in Arad two days ago by a Palestinian terrorist will be buried in Tel Aviv at noon today.

Kukia’s family has donated his organs for transplant. Kukia’s murderer has yet to be captured, though an official announcement may be in the offing.

*The three Palestinian terrorists who murdered 4 Israelis at the Sarona Market in Tel Aviv in June 2016 have each been sentenced to four life terms in prison.

Those killed in that attack were Ido Ben-Ari, a 42-year-old resident of Ramat Gan; Ilana Naveh, a 39-year-old resident of Tel Aviv; Michael Fayga, 58, from Midreshet Ben Gurion; and Mila Mashiv, 32, from Ramat Gan.

The dangers of subcontracting security . . .

The IDF was informed this morning that all of the private security guards working at the checkpoints in Judea and Samaria are going on strike tomorrow.

TODAY’S BLOG:

The Trump Virtual Reality Show: How Will This Jerusalem Episode End?

As you undoubtedly know by now, the “virtual reality” show that has sprung up around Trump’s possible decisions concerning Jerusalem has all kinds of Arabs going berserk.

The newest trial balloon that the Trump White House has leaked out is that Trump will declare on Wednesday that “Jerusalem is the capital of Israel.” Of course we in Israel have always known this, but the world wants to persist in the delusion that it is not.

The catch is that Trump will declare Jerusalem the capital but not move the Embassy.

All the ranting and raving yesterday and today about this possible declaration cannot help but make your humble servant laugh.

As we have already seen, Mahmoud Abbas couldn’t sleep.

The same spokesman who revealed Abbas’ sleep problem also issued a thinly veiled terrorist threat to the world: “The whole world will pay a price for any change or harm to the political reality of Jerusalem.”

Hamas ludicrously declared that naming Jerusalem the capital would give Israel “a cover for continuing its crime of Judaizing the city and emptying it of Palestinians”–and would cause Hamas to declare a new “intifada”.

Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit ranted“Today we say very clearly that taking such action is not justified . . . Naming Jerusalem capital will not serve peace or stability, but will fuel extremism and resort to violence.”

And on and on. It really doesn’t make any difference if we are talking about magnetometers on the Temple Mount, or calling Jerusalem the capital of Israel, or  . . . or . . . or–the Palestinian response is always the same: “If you don’t give us what we want, we will blow you up.”

Since Israelis these days pay virtually no attention to anything that spews from the mouth of our Arab cousins, the question is simply whether all of the threats will make Trump fold?

To put it another way, how will this episode of the Trump virtual reality show end?

I sincerely hope I am wrong, but my best guess is that Wednesday will come and go with Trump having signed another 6-month waiver against moving the Embassy.
