UPDATES 6 pm Israel time Sunday:
*There are no military secrets any more in Israel. The IDF insanely announced today that it is moving Iron Dome batteries from the south to the north–especially to areas around Haifa. The announcement is tantamount to telling Hamas that it is “open season” again on communities in the south.
*Continued clashes between the IDF and Palestinians are taking place in and around Jenin. If you want to see just how absurd the situation has become with the IDF completely neutered by political correctness, take a look at the following picture that shows Palestinians atop an IDF jeep in Jenin (the picture appeared on the facebook page of Alaa Badarneh):
*In a followup to yesterday’s blog, it is now reported by doctors that Ariel Sharon has “significant brain activity” and is responsive to pictures of his family and his son’s voice.
*41 protesters have now been killed in Egypt in a paroxysm of violence related to the anniversary of the “revolution” and a judicial decision sentencing 21 soccer fans to death for their part in the deaths of 74 other fans in a riot last year. Much of the protesting is being carried out by the “black block”–teenagers completely dressed in black with black ski masks.
The Palestinian attempt to murder and terrorize Israelis takes place on a daily basis on a scale that is rarely discussed and virtually never reported in the international press. The failure of most of these attempts is a testament to the constant vigilance of our brave members of Shin Bet, the IDF, the Border Guards, and Israeli police.
Last night provided yet another example of such vigilance.
An IDF platoon leader from the Lavi Battalion of the Kfir Brigade heard two explosions 300 meters from the IDF position at a pillbox near the Hawara checkpoint near Shechem (Nablus). The squad commander, a “Sgt. Davidov”, identified two terrorists running away from the position and immediately took action. The platoon was able to quickly overtake and capture the terrorists.
As it evolved, the two terrorists were from a settlement around Shechem and had thrown two Molotov cocktails at the Hawara checkpoint as an unsuccessful diversion. But that was just the tip of the iceberg.
In the process of their capture, Israeli troops discovered knives, three Molotov cocktails, and three large explosive devices. But more than this, the troops discovered that the terrorists were members of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades and that their real target was the Jewish community of Elon Moreh.
In fact, the two terrorists were carrying an “announcement” from the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades taking “full responsibility” for the “blasts” at Elon Moreh and promising more such attacks.
Of course, thanks to the soldiers of the Lavi Battalion, the terrorist attack at Elon Moreh never took place.
