The Picture of the Day:

Posted on a social media site, this picture was captioned:  “Today the  leader of the revolution is leafing through the book about Trump, the president of the United States, at the Tehran fair.”

Interestingly, the book is a Farsi translation of Michael Wolff”s “Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White Housewhich has been heavily criticized by many for its egregious inaccuracies.

Also, note the head of the cane under Khamenei’s arm: his health has declined in recent years.

The News on the Israeli Street

Interesting statistics on Israelis seeking citizenship and work permits . . .

According to recent data from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, between 1995 and 2005, some 66,000 Israelis became U.S. citizens or legalized permanent residents (holders of green cards/work permits). Between 2006 and 2016, another 87,000 Israelis did the same.

153,000 in 20 yearsmore than 7,500 per year.

At first glance, this seems disastrous and attributable to the incredibly high cost of living in Israel and relatively low salaries; however, it may not be quite as bad as it looks.

There is no breakdown between “those who became citizens” and “those who became permanent residents.” It is an important distinction because new citizens are obviously less likely to return home than “green card” holders who are seeking to work in the U.S. temporarily.

Or maybe not so obviously.

When it comes to Israelis, even citizens are more likely to return home than other immigrants to the United States–a very large percentage of Israelis are, at the least, dual citizens.

Why does your humble servant say “at the least”? Take my wife as an example. She has triple citizenship: Israeli, American, and Bulgarian (Bulgarian by virtue of the fact that her mother was born in Sofia). When it comes to Israel, she is not an anomaly.

Nevertheless, there is a brain drain from Israel that the country must continue to fight–especially by lowering the cost of living.

TODAY’S BLOG:

When Is Palestinian Terrorism A Good Thing?

When The Palestinians Harm Themselves

There were two attempts to run over IDF soldiers yesterday. These were definitely not “good things.”

The first occurred at Shavei Shomron where a soldier was wounded and had to be evacuated to a nearby hospital; the terrorist escaped in his car.

The second attack took place at a checkpoint near the headquarters of the Judea Brigade. No soldiers were wounded and the terrorist was captured.

However, the most severe terrorism was at the Gaza Border where what had been relatively mild riots on Friday became dramatically more intense as leaders of Hamas went to the border to incite the rioters.

Incredibly–or perhaps not so, given the fact that the Palestinians have a peculiar knack for harming themselves– the focus of the terror was at the Kerem Shalom Crossing.

As you will remember, Kerem Shalom is the place where all of the fuel that Israel ridiculously transfers to Palestinians is piped into Gaza and where all of the construction materials and other “humanitarian supplies” that Israel ludicrously trucks to Gaza is then transferred by conveyor belt to the Palestinians.

No longer on either count.

In the first place, the gas pipeline was set on fire and blown up:

No more fuel for Gaza from Israel.

No more fuel for Gaza from Israel.

The scenes of terrorists rejoicing as the pipeline was destroyed were splashed all over the internet.

In the second place, the huge conveyor belt was also destroyed in a fireball:

This picture was made by Palestinians as the fire started. The entire machine was eventually destoyed.

In total, the terrorists caused some $10 million dollars (36 million shekels) worth of damage at Kerem Shalom.  The initial result is that the Kerem Shalom Crossing has been closed indefinitely.

The secondary result is that there will be virtually no fuel to operate the Gaza power plant–and no construction materials flowing into Gaza to build more tunnels.

In this sense perhaps the Palestinian terrorism last night was a good thing because it only hurt the Palestinians themselves.
