The American Embassy Moves to Jerusalem!

As night begins to fall in Jerusalem, Israelis are still overcome with euphoria over the events of the last few days. Netta has returned from Lisbon, and thousands are rejoicing with her in Tel Aviv’s Rabin Square over her win in the Eurovision contest. In Jerusalem, the parties continue after the opening of the American Embassy today.
As always, however, we know that life is bittersweet. Who knows what tomorrow will bring?
For one thing, Hamas sources have indicated in the last hour that they are hoping that more Palestinians will be killed tomorrow on “Nakba Day.” They have also let it be known that many of their armed fighters will attack the fence during the day with the intent of kidnapping soldiers.

In our previous posts today, your humble servant did not recognize those whom he believes are most responsible for moving the Embassy to Jerusalem. There are many who deserve credit, but here are some of the most important non-Israelis:
President Donald Trump. Obviously without his decision, the move would never have been made.
Vice President Mike Pence. His evangelical voice in the White House and out of it supporting the move has been a strong one.
The Congress of the United States. Bi-partisan support for moving the Embassy has been strong for over two decades. In recent years, the Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives–as well as Republican senators in the Senate have taken the lead.
Sheldon Adelson. The casino mogul who donated heavily to President Trump’s campaign and who meets Trump regularly for dinner has been focused like a laser on getting the Embassy moved. He was sitting in the front row this afternoon with his wife.
John Hagee. The founder of evangelical Christians United for Israel (CUFI), an organization that has strongly backed the move. Not well known is the fact that CUFI is the largest pro-Israel advocacy group in the world with more than 4 million members.
Others that should probably be included are Jason Greenblatt, Jared Kushner, and Ivanka Trump. It is worth remembering that Ivanka was one of the lead people who came to Israel last year, and she continually said that her father would move the Embassy.
Meanwhile, on the Gaza border, the number of terrorists who have been killed while trying to attack our soldiers and infiltrate our country today has risen to 52.

The ceremony has ended, and the American Embassy is open for business in Jerusalem. President Trump was thanked effusively by a procession of speakers.

It was an all-star program with an all-star audience. Particularly interesting comments were made by U.S. Ambassador David Friedman, Trump adviser and son-in-law Jared Kushner, and PM Netanyahu. Also of note was the rousing conclusion from the founder of Christians United for Israel, John Hagee.
The bottom line from all the speakers was that there can never be peace between Israelis and Palestinians without recognizing the truth that Jerusalem is the capital of the Jewish state of Israel.
To which we might add . . . since the Palestinians will never recognize this truth, there will never be peace.

3:30 pm Israel time:
The new American Embassy is scheduled to open in Jerusalem in 30 minutes at 4 pm Israel time.
The stage is set.
On the Gaza Border, squads of Palestinian terrorists have been firing at IDF soldiers and attempting to place explosives along the border fence. Thus far, 28 terrorists have been shot and killed.
In Judea and Samaria, riots are taking place in Bethlehem, Hevron, and various locations in eastern Jerusalem.
A student from Malawi, who had worked with an Israeli health volunteer in his country battling AIDS, came up to us as we walked down the street in the UC-Davis Picnic Day Parade and wanted to carry the Israeli flag.
