The News on the Israeli Street

Palestinian terror in the last 24 . . .

On the Gaza border:

*Palestinian terrorists have made numerous attempts to infiltrate Israel. In one incident yesterday, two terrorists (aka “peaceful protesters”) armed with guns and axes managed to break through the border fence but were intercepted by IDF forces. In the ensuing firefight, one of the terrorists was killed.

*The Molotov kite attacks continue with two large fires currently burning. Speaking yesterday, Defense Minister Lieberman noted that around 600 “kites” have thus far been launched. 400 of these have been intercepted, but 200 have made it into Israel where they have started fires that have burned thousands of acres of forests and agricultural fields.

*Further followup on the death of the Gaza medic several days ago: Palestinian and international social media have been widely circulating the following picture of what they claim is the Israeli sniper who allegedly shot the medic:

We have covered her face but Palestinian media has not.

We have covered her face but the Palestinian and international media have not.

By the way, the person you see above did not shoot anyone this week. She was a lone soldier from the United States who finished her military service two years ago. Her picture was randomly chosen by Palestinian propagandists.  Now she has had to go into hiding because of the threats on her life.

In Judea and Samaria:

Palestinian terrorists carried out “rock” and Molotov attacks against Israeli women, children, and men at Luban a-Sharqiya, Neve Daniel, the north Efrat Junction, Hevron, Jiftlik, Nili, the Hashmonaim Junction, Rachel’s Tomb, Hawara, and Hizma among other places.

The pathetic enforcement of the Civil Administration . . .

It has been estimated that in Area C of Judea and Samaria, there are some 3,500 illegal structures that have been built by Palestinians and their cohorts in the European Union.

Therefore, what are we to say about the fact that in May, the Civil Administration destroyed 21 illegal structures, nine of which were residences.

What are we to say about 21 out of 3,500?

Pathetic. Absolutely pathetic.

Some interesting birth statistics from Gaza . . .

According to the Gazan Ministry of the Interior:

4859 babies were born in January; 3651 in February; 3246 in April (no stats for March); and 2786 in May.

Aside from the apparently declining birthrate (though this might be explained as seasonal fluctuation), 59% of all births in May were females, and only 41% were males.

An Intriguing Episode On The Temple Mount Last Night

How do you explain what happened last night?

Jibril Rajoub, senior member of the Fatah (PLO) Central Committee and renowned chairman of the Palestinian Football Association,  was “expelled” from the Al-Aqsa Mosque last night after the Taraweeh prayer was recited.

Not only was he kicked out of the Mosque by the Muslims in the mosque, he was accosted by the Muslim “Murabiton” upon exiting.

At that point, the Israeli police on the Mount stepped in to defend Rajoub and escort him off the Mount.

How strange is all of this?

Not strange at all.

The Murabiton and Al-Aqsa Mosque are under the control of the Islamic Wakf in general, and Islamic Movement in particular. It could be that Jibril’s treatment was merely part of the ongoing clash between Hamas/Islamic Jihad on one side, and the PLO on the other.

And there is one more “small” detail. Rajoub made the “egregious error” last year of declaring that while Jerusalem and the Temple Mount is “Muslim”, the Western Wall is a Jewish holy place.

However, before you praise Rajoub too highly for that concession, he is the loathsome person who leads the effort to boycott Israeli sports teams in international competitionsand he is also the person who successfully led the fight against having a moment of silence at the last Olympics for the Israeli athletes murdered at Munich.

Despite these activities, Israeli intervention on behalf of Rajoub is not so strange either.

After all, the Israeli government is what keeps the PLO in power throughout Areas A and B. The fact that Rajoub was kicked out and accosted also shows why the PLO and Israel are terrified of permitting elections in Areas A and B.
