Quote of the Day That Makes Us The Angriest:

“I woke up today with the smell of July 14, 2014 in the air … there have been 15 Code Red alerts today so far, and we understand that it won’t stop. We are resilient in the community, but we are getting weaker from one round of fighting to another. You can’t pull a family away from home every few years. We can’t go back to being refugees in our own country.”

Raz Shmilowitz resident of Netiv HaAsara–the closest Israeli community to the Gaza border.

Raz, the father of four with a two-week-old baby, was speaking early on Saturday morning about how the situation has not changed since the 2014 war with Hamas. By the end of the day, 15 Code Red alerts had increased to more than 150; by the evening, many residents of Netiv HaAsara had decided to go live temporarily with their friends and families in central and northern Israel.

It infuriates your humble servant that the brave people of Netiv HaAsara are forced to live in such absurd circumstances–“refugees in our own country”– because of the abandonment of our government.

The News on the Israeli Street

Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .

On the Gaza border:

Remember how PM Netanyahu claimed at Sunday’s security cabinet meeting that Israel had demanded that incendiary kites and balloons must stop being launched into Israel?

Dozens were launched yesterday resulting is six major fires–the largest one in the community of Karmiya where residents were not allowed to go outside because of the danger of smoke inhalation.

Remember how PM Netanyahu claimed on Sunday that Hamas had not been hit so hard since 2014 and how we would now have “quiet” again in the south?

Two mortars exploded near Nahal Oz, and two more missiles hit near Zikim at 5:36 pm. In both cases, the IDF was back to its old subterfuges, first claiming that there were no launches, then claiming the missiles exploded in Gaza, then finally admitting that they all hit in “open areas.”

The new story is that Egypt has conveyed to Hamas that it has 72 hours to stop the incendiary launches and the missile/mortar fire or Israel will attack Hamas with full force–with Egyptian backing. A further sign of Israel-Egyptian cooperation is that both the Rafah Crossing from Egypt into Gaza, and Kerem Shalom Crossing from Israel into Gaza were both closed last night.

In Judea and Samaria:

Palestinian terrorists in a car threw a Molotov firebomb at a passing Israeli vehicle near Deir Abu Mash’al. Miraculously, no one was physically wounded. The terrorists escaped.

Palestinian terrorists using “rocks” and Molotovs attacked a busload of Israelis near Hizma.  No one was physically wounded. The terrorists escaped.

Palestinian terrorists wounded a resident of Kedumim at the small Jit Junction. The terrorists escaped.

Palestinian terrorists struck another busload of Israelis near Sha’ar Binyamin. The terrorists escaped.

Palestinian terrorists attacked Israeli motorists between Gilad Farm and the small Yitzhar Junction. The terrorists escaped.

Do you notice a common theme in all of the above? The terrorists escaped. Judea and Samaria remains a largely lawless region where terrorists attack buses, cars, and pedestrians with impunity.

The Trump-Putin news conference . . .

In what can only be described as an unusual event, we had the Presidents of Russia and the United States at a press conference in Helsinki talking about the importance of putting pressure on Iran to ensure Israel’s security.

President Putin even went so far as to remark that he and Netanyahu have a good working relationship.

You can say what you want to about Trump, but the very fact that he has continuously stood up for Israel in every conceivable venue has been something to behold–and something that Israelis and our supporters everywhere should remember.

Great news! At least for the time being . . .

The Knesset passed the “Breaking the Silence” law last night which prevents anyone from lecturing in schools who works against IDF soldiers and the state of Israel.

The law is sure to be challenged in the ultra left-wing Israel High Court of Injustice which will almost certainly find that it violates free speech, but for the moment, let’s celebrate a law that should have been passed long ago.

No justice for Nirit Zamora . . .

Remember the terror attack two years ago in which a Palestinian terrorist tried to murder Nirit Zamora by viciously stabbing her in the neck–so viciously that the knife handle broke off leaving the blade at her carotid artery?

All the while yelling Allahu Akbar.

Nirit barely survived.

zamoraAnd remember how the Israeli Military Court hearing the case ludicrously decided a few months ago that the terrorist could not be charged with attempted murder because “his intent” could not be determined?

The prosecution had asked for the maximum sentence of 30 years in prison be imposed, but yesterday, the Court handed down a sentence of only 14 years.

Upon hearing the sentence, the terrorist turned around to Zamora (who was in the courtroom) and smiled.

Incredible. Simply, disgustingly, incredible.

The poster for this year's march.

The poster for this year’s march.

Each year, your humble servant and his wife participate in many marches and walks in Jerusalem, but none gives us more pleasure than our march with the Women in Green around the Muslim Quarter of the Old City on Tisha B’Av.

The march always begins with a reading of the Eicha (Lamentations on the destruction of the Temple) at 9:30 pm followed by a short speech (this year by Caroline Glick), and by 10:15 we are off to the Lions’ Gate on the eastern wall of the city.

This morning, our excitement level grew exponentially as we read a statement issued yesterday by the The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In that statement, the Palestinians accused the Women in Green of being right wing extremistsand that the march on Saturday night is provocative because it affirms Israeli sovereignty over Jerusalem and serves to unify the city as the capital of Jerusalem.

What is more, the Palestinians ranted that the march “is an extension of the state of extremism that dominates the political arena in Israel and the settlers, since Trump’s ominous declaration on Jerusalem and the transfer of the embassy and the continuous Judaization of the Holy City and its separation from its Palestinian surroundings.”

Moreover, the Palestinian Foreign Affairs Office said that marches like the one on Saturday “prevent the creation of a viable Palestinian state with . . . East Jerusalem as its capital.”

The Palestinians concluded by calling on the international community “to hold Israel accountable for its aggressive and provocative practices.”

After reading the Palestinians’ comments, your humble servant has only one thing to say. We can’t wait until Saturday night! Come join us with the Women in Green!!
