The Message of the Day:

U.S. Ambassador Nikki Haley meeting with IDF senior officers.

U.S. United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley meeting with IDF senior officers.

To say that all of Israel is disheartened by Nikki Haley’s resignation yesterday is an understatement. There has never been an American U.N. Ambassador who has gone to bat for Israel like Nikki Haley. For once, the IDF spokesman got it right by referring to her “unwavering support for Israel and the truth.”

We will miss her dearly when she leaves at the end of the year, and we wish Nikki Haley well in her future endeavors!

The News on the Israeli Street

Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .

In Judea and Samaria:

Palestinian terrorists tried to kill Israeli men, women, and children by throwing “rocks’ and Molotovs on the Abud Bypass Road, Hagai, Na’ale, Kedumim, Tekoa, Ma’ale Levona, the Tapuach Junction, Nili, El Aruv, the Hatti Junction, Psagot, the Macabim Checkpoint,  Nofei Nechemia, and a myriad of other places. Fortunately no Israelis were physically wounded, but many were treated for trauma.

All of the above attacks were reported by Israelis to Rescue Judea and Samaria, rotter, and hakolhayehudi.

On the Gaza border:

Palestinian terrorists launched incendiary balloons from Gaza that started five more fires that burned an unknown number of acres of forests and agricultural fields yesterday; the worst was at Kissufim. Other balloons reached as far as Kiryat Gat, Kiryat Malachi, and even Modi’in.

A major assault was mounted by terrorists on the new maritime barrier at ZikimThe fence was cut, the border was penetrated, and the terrorists even established a military outpost in Israel before being repulsed by the IDF. Numerous videos were posted to social media documenting the attacks. Amazingly, the IDF did not even comment about what happened.

Until this morning, when the IDF Spokesman ludicrously blathered:

“Violations of the violent order took place yesterday near the security fence in the northern part of the Gaza Strip took place with the participation of thousands of rioters. During the disturbances, the rioters damaged the old security fence in the Palestinian area and set it on fire (there was no infiltration into Israel or damage to the infrastructure). . . Security was active during this event . . .media outlets that published otherwise misled the public.”

What nonsense. Israeli media outlets do not need to publish anything anymore. There are dozens of Palestinians on the ground recording everything with even a “live-cam” from affected areas.

The spokesman continued his nonsense:

“The rioters threw charges and spray grenades, burned tires and threw stones at IDF soldiers. One of the rioters crossed into Israel for a short time, set fire to an abandoned military position near the fence, and burned the post immediately. There are no casualties, and there is damage to the camouflage network only. In the course of the violent violation, the fighters acted to prevent a wide penetration into the territory of the country. The incident is controlled by observation and fire from start to finish and at no point has it come out of control.”

Say what? In the first place, dozens penetrated Israel. In the second, the situation was completely out of control. In the third place, the IDF is actually crowing about the fact that it prevented “a wide penetration”?

Unbelievable.

The response to all of the Gaza violence . . .

PM Netanyahu was first up yesterday with this disingenuous statement: “I am reluctant to start unnecessary wars.” In case Bibi has missed the fact, southern Israel has now had six months of war with thousands of incendiary balloons launched, more than a hundred missiles, and daily attacks on our borders. This is not a war?

Next came Trump emissary Jason Greenblatt who thanked Israel for its humanitarian outreach to Gaza–this time for Israel allowing fuel tankers carrying fuel purchased by Qatar to enter Gaza through the Kerem Shalom crossing. Greenblatt had this to say:

“I appreciate the efforts of the United Nations, Egypt, Qatar and Israel to improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza and in efforts to achieve the goal of a long ceasefire.”

They attack us; we deliver humanitarian supplies to them.

Incredible.

Anti-Semitism As Rampant As Ever:

In Davis, California and Sofia, Bulgaria

The flyer that appeared all of the University of California-Davis campus yesterday.

The flyer that appeared at the University of California-Davis campus yesterday.

As regular readers of israelstreet know, your humble servant lives half of each year in the northern California city of Davis home to the University of California-Davis (UCD), and other half in the Israeli city of Ashdod.

Not surprisingly with an imam across the street from UCD calling (last year) for the murder of Israelis from his pulpit at the mosque, Davis has become ground zero for anti-Semitism in the area. (By the way, that imam is still sermonizing from his mosque.)

Yesterday, Jewish students on campus were hit with more anti-Semitism. Here is a news article that describes what happened:

“The Jewish students at the University of California, Davis, were surprised to wake up Monday morning and discover that antisemitic posters had been distributed on campus. The posters accuse the Jews of the world, among other things, of sexual complaints against Supreme Court Justice Bert Cavanaugh.

The president of the university’s student union, Michael Goffman, uploaded a photo of the poster to his Facebook page and listed several locations on the campus where they were distributed. ‘My office is working with the university administration to investigate the matter, and we will update them all when we have more information.’

‘If there are Jewish students who feel uncomfortable or insecure on the campus, please contact me and I will connect you with relevant bodies that will help you,’  Goffman told Jewish students, ‘Now more than ever, my office is a safe place for you.’ He concluded that ‘this is an ugly antisemitic attack’.

Your humble servant was thinking about this when he arrived in Sofia, Bulgaria for a short visit yesterday. We are here in Bulgaria this week visiting places where my mother-in-law and her family lived lived before the Nazis entered Sofia–and places where she was hidden afterward before reaching Israel.

As we traveled through central Sofia on a warm autumn afternoon, we came to the square of the St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral. It’s a beautiful place frequented by many tourists. Beside it is a park where vendors sell their wares:

The park beside the cathedral in downtown Sofia.

The lovely park beside the cathedral in downtown Sofia. Notice the vendor tents in the background with tables underneath.

Well maybe, not so lovely when we started looking at the vendor tables.

The flag of course is the German Iron Cross flag from WW1--which has become a Nazi symbol.

The flag of course is the German Iron Cross flag from WWI–which became and is used today as a Nazi symbol.

What were the hottest items at this booth and others like it?

From another table:

Nazi items galore.

Nazi items galore.

All of this in Sofia’s central square, three blocks from where the Gestapo took over the home of my mother-in-law when they marched into the city.

Needless to say, the flyer in Davis and the tables in Sofia are shocking reminders of how anti-Semitism runs as rampant as ever–and how we all have a responsibility to act when we see it.
