UPDATE 12:45 pm Wednesday

Reports are that the one hundred thousandth ceasefire engineered by Egypt between Israel and the terrorists in Gaza went into effect at noon today.

A ceasefire that is no ceasefire. We agree to stop bombing their empty buildings and sand dunes; they agree to nothing, and continue launching incendiary devices by the hundreds and attacking our soldiers on the border fence with molotovs, grenades, IEDs, and anything else they can find.

By tomorrow, we will open all the crossings again, extend the fishing area again, and generally continue to under the “protection” of an utterly impotent government and IDF.

It is a pathetic, neverending cycle.

By the way, earlier reports about 3 terrorists being killed have proved incorrect. Only 1 terrorist was killed in the 20 supposed attacks that the IDF carried out on terrorist “targets.”

1 terrorist.

Unless events take dictate, this will be our last update of the day.

UPDATE at 10:45 am Wednesday

Three missiles were fired at 8:33 am. Apparently, they all hit “open areas”.

All schools in the Sdot Negev Regional Council on the Gaza border have been closed.

An IAF strike on a terror cell readying to launch missiles into Israel apparently kills 3 terrorists.

Your humble servant is quite the prognosticator:

–as predicted, Hamas and Islamic Jihad have both claimed that they did not shoot the missiles at Beersheva and Tel Aviv

–as predicted, Non-Defense Minister Lieberman has closed the already closed crossings and reduced the fishing area to 3 km

–(as I should have predicted), Egypt is urging Israel to restrain itself. This is the same Egypt that told Hamas the other day that if any of their terrorists crossed the Egyptian fence into Egypt, they would be shot.

UPDATE at 8:45 am Wednesday

Alarm sounds at 8:33 am.

Alarm sounds at 8:33 am.

8:33 am: Incoming missile alarms for Yad Mordechai, Netiv HaAsara, and the Chof Ashkelon region. It should be noted that residents of these communities have 3 seconds to run to a shelter from the time an alarm sounds until the moment a missile explodes.

The first major fire of the day is now burning at Kibbutz HaNer.

Another picture of the house that was hit my a missile in Beersheva early this morning. The missile actually hit the bedroom where the three children had been sleeping seconds before. When the siren went off, the mother woke up, immediately ran upstairs, took the children out of their beds, and had just made it to their bomb shelter when the missile hit.

UPDATE at 7:15 am Wednesday

At 7:01 am this morning, Israeli jets began attacking “targets” in Gaza.  A strong explosion was heard in Khan Younis. Whether these are real targets housing real terrorists–or merely empty buildings and empty sand dunes is unknown at this hour.

These attacks follow another day and night of extreme violence perpetrated by Palestinian terrorists in Gaza.

At 3:38 am this morning, in the midst of an intense thunderstorm blowing in from Mediterranean, incoming missile sirens sounded for the Beersheva area:

At 3:39 am this morning, a missile fired by Palestinian terrorists in Gaza scored a direct hit on a house in central Beersheva.

Nine people were treated by MADA after the explosion in the house: the four residents of the home (a 39-year-old mother and her three children (ages 9, 10, 12); one man who was injured while running to a bomb shelter, 4 more people who were treated for trauma in the surrounding neighborhood.

Another missile fired at the same time toward Tel Aviv apparently exploded in the sea beside Bat Yam; however, this report is uncertain–other Israelis reported an explosion in Ramat Gan and elsewhere in the Dan region. There were no warning sirens.

These missile attacks followed a day in which terrorists staged multiple attacks at the border fence in an attempt to kill and kidnap Israeli soldiers.  Numerous videos were posted by the terrorists; what follows is one showing how terrorists blew open a hole in the security fence:

Here are some photos of the same event:

In the next photo, you can see how the fence was blown open:

Terrorists rush the fence.

At the same time, the attacks on the fence were occurring, 5 more fires were set by incendiary balloons launched from Gaza.

In sum, the situation on the Gaza border is completely out of control. What the next few hours will bring is anyone’s guess, but a few things can be counted on.

To begin with, Hamas will claim that it did not fire the missiles at Beersheva and Tel Aviv; in its desperation not to attack, the IDF will rush to agree with Hamas.

Next, we will see a parade of government officials in Jerusalem rant and rave about how something must be done. Non-Defense Minister Lieberman will close the border crossings (which were already closed yesterday), and further reduce the fishing area off of the Gaza coast.

Third, the international media will continue to lambaste Israel for alleged “humanitarian” violations which never happened.

We will keep updating israelstreet every two hours all day. Stay tuned.
