The News on the Israeli Street

Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .

In Judea and Samaria:

The utility vehicle that was used in the ramming attack yesterday. Note how the impact with the three soldiers tore the front grill off the vehicle--and also note the shattered spots on the windshield where two the soldiers bounced off.

**A Palestinian terrorist affiliated with Hamas, who worked as a nurse near Bethlehem, spotted a group of soldiers who were part of an engineering detail beside the road between Beit Ummar and El Aruv.  He suddenly veered into the soldiers, running over three. Two were moderately wounded while the other was more seriously so. As he attempted to flee the scene, he was shot and killed by an IDF reservist.

It should be noted that the soldiers were working on a section of road that should be well-known to regular readers of israelstreet. How many times have we reported that Israeli motorists were attacked with “rocks” and Molotovs at Beit Ummar and El Aruv?

It should also be emphasized that the person who killed the terrorist was an IDF reservist. Keep that in mind as you read below about developments in Gaza.

**Speaking of “rocks” and Molotovs, Palestinian terrorists assaulted Israelis at many of the usual locations yesterday: Karmei Tzur, Tapuach, between El Aruv and Beit Ummar (!), Maskiyot, the Abud Bypass, Deir Nizam, Luban a-Sharqiya, and the Gush Etzion checkpoint.

All of the above attacks were reported by Israeli citizens to Rescue Judea and Samaria, hakolhayehudi, and rotter.

On the Gaza Border:

It is simply amazing how the IDF General Command seemingly does all it can to put our soldiers as risk.

This morning the IDF General Command Spokesman issued these new “Open-Fire Regulations on the Gaza Border”:

“Reserve soldiers are instructed to shoot only at the feet of the terrorists in the Gaza fence. The IDF operates in accordance with the Open-Fire Regulations, which are organized and adapted to the sector.”

Can you believe this? Thousands of terrorists rushing the fence every day with every intent of killing IDF soldiers with grenades, IEDs, bombs, and gunfire, and all our soldiers can now do to defend themselves is shoot at the terrorists’ feet.

It is really unbelievable.

Equally unbelievable is the fact that after one week of no fires (only because balloons and kites with explosives have been defused before they could start any), the central headquarters for fighting terrorist-started fires along the Gaza border has been dismantled.

Yes, you read that correctly. It no longer exists.

And what is going to happen when the next fire starts tomorrow?

TODAY’S BLOG:

“Why are you still living there?”

If ever there was a telling moment which crystallized how most of the world feels about Israel, it occurred yesterday in Geneva at a meeting of the United Nations Commission on Civil Rights.

By way of context, that Commission is “investigating” the events in recent months along the Gaza border. As part of its investigation, the Commission invited Israeli residents of the border communities to come and “give testimony” about what has been happening there.

Much to the Commission’s surprise, two women–one from Kibbutz Kfar Aza and the other from Kibbutz Nirim–accepted the offer and flew to Geneva last week.

They spent four hours before the Commission. During that time, they presented maps and photographs showing where they lived and described living with the constant threat of and attacks of fires, missiles, tunnels, kites, and balloons.

They talked at length about the devastating traumatic effect of living in bomb shelters, having to breathe chokingly black air full of toxic particulate matter, and dealing with PTSD which is rampant in children and adults in the border communities.

At the end of their presentation, Commission members asked two basic questions. First, one Commission member wanted to know why Israeli soldiers have to shoot at Palestinians who are attempting to infiltrate Israel. To which the astounded Israeli representative replied “We have to defend ourselves.” Apparently, that response was met with a disapproving silence from the Commission.

Which brings us to the second question.

Another Commission member asked: “Why do you stay in your home? Why are you still living there? Why don’t you just move and live somewhere else?”

That, dear readers, encapsulates in a nutshell the attitude of much of the world toward Israel.

The way to stop Palestinian terror is simply for Israelis to get up and move somewhere else.

The way to stop Iran from attempting to wipe us off the map is simply for us to get up and move somewhere else.

The way to stop all negative resolutions against Israel that flow out of the United Nations and European Union everyday is simply for Israelis to move somewhere else and thereby cause Israel to be nothing more than an unpleasant memory.

Then, everything will be OK, and the world will live in peace.

By the way, the Israeli woman answered the Commissioner with these words: “I am a Zionist; this is my home; and I am not moving anywhere!”

Kolakevod!
