Happy New Year to all of our dear readers!

We are looking forward to a wonderful year in Israel and here on israelstreet. One major change this year is that by the end of 2019, israelstreet.org will have morphed into oneisrael.org. We look forward to being with you through the adventure that is to come!

The News on the Israeli Street

Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .

2018 may have come and gone, but Palestinian terrorists will be here to stay as long as our government does not heavily crack down on them.

Remember how we reported yesterday that the IDF only recorded 2,057 “rock” attacks in Judea and Samaria during 2018?

There were more than 30 attacks yesterday alone.

Our soldiers and civilians were attacked in Bethlehem, Tekoa, the Hatti Junction, Kober, Road 465, the Michmash Crossing, Luban A-Sharqiya, the Postal Junction, Anatot, the Abud Bypass Road, Givat Assaf, Ofarim, Hizma, and a myriad of other places.

Another year and the Palestinian population canard grows . . .

According to the Palestinian Authority’s Central Bureau of Statistics, there are now 13.05 million Palestinians in the world, 4.9 million of whom live in Judea, Samaria, and Gaza.

How did the Palestinian Bureau of Statistics come up with these numbers?

Given the fact that there was no census, it was just another estimate of the type we have seen for years.

By the way, of the 4.9 million Palestinians living in areas under the complete control of the Palestinians, the Palestinian Bureau of Statistics says that 42% are “refugees”.

Yes, “refugees”.

“Refugees” in what is supposedly their own land.

Guess what Israel is now responsible for? . . .

Believe it or not, Israel is now being blamed for the outbreak of antibiotic-resistant bacteria in Gaza.

According to the Palestinian narrative picked up by the British newspaper The Guardian, the bacteria has broken out because of a shortage of antibiotics caused by the “vast number” of antibiotics administered to “poor Palestinians” wounded in the daily attacks on the border fence.

If you can follow the above absurd logic, you are a better logician than your humble servant.

The newspaper goes so far as to predict there will soon be an epidemic in the region because waste products from Gaza may contaminate the underwater aquifer shared by Gaza, Israel, and Egypt.

Soon, sick people everywhere will have Israel to blame for their ill health.

The Israeli “left”: aging, Ashkenazi, and aghast . . .

It is immediately apparent when one engages with the Israeli “left” these days whether it is with the women of Machsom Watch or any other group, that the Israeli left is aging and Ashkenazi.

The majority of young people–the ones you rarely see protesting–are ideologically to the right. Similarly, the majority of the Sephardic population–many of whom came from Arabic countries–are on the “right.”

As reported in the Times of Israel, one such group was recently taken out to Hevron. Once there, they were apparently shocked at how Jews have returned to the city and are reestablishing neighborhoods. One of the group expressed the thoughts of many when he said: “In the end, I think they’ve [Jewish community members/settlers] won, unfortunately.”

Judea and Samaria is largely populated by young Israelis, and they have overcome every obstacle put in their way to reclaim our ancestral homeland.

Kolakevod to them!

TODAY’S BLOG:

How Can This Be Happening In Israel?

Protesters out in front of the house of Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked tonight--demanding the release of three minors currently imprisoned by our Shin Bet.

Protesters out in front of the house of Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked tonight–demanding the release of three minors currently imprisoned by our Shin Bet. The signs say that Shaked will have to answer to the public.

The Duma trial continues in Lod, even after the revelations of the last few months that the confessions made by the two defendants (one adult and one minor) were obtained through torture by Israel’s security service Shin Bet.

Even the prosecutor has admitted that the defendants (along with dozens of other so-called “Hilltop Youth”) were arrested without warrants, imprisoned in solitary confinement for weeks, denied contact with a lawyer or their families, and were beaten.

Yesterday, to no one’s surprise, the Court in Lod where the Duma 2 are being tried threw out the “confession” of the minor who is being held. Whether the “confession” of the adult will be similarly tossed out is anyone’s guess.

It should be.

But such is the determination of the prosecution in the case to railroad the two defendants that the government is claiming that there is enough evidence to convict the two even without the confessions gained through torture.

One would think that this entire sorry episode that has exposed the barbarity of Shin Bet toward Israeli Jews would have at least had the effect of stopping such abuses of power from taking place.

It has not.

This week the Shin Bet rounded up three more minors among the Hilltop Youth, accused them of unspecified crimes, imprisoned them without a warrant, and is doing who knows what to them while they are being held–again without the ability to contact a lawyer or their families.

It is simply unbelievable. And sickening.
