The Insulting Quote of the Day

“Netanyahu’s voters are people without knowledge; their normative intelligence level is at the height of grass.”

Shabtai Shavit, ultra-leftist and former head of Mossad from 1989-1996 (he left his post in 1996 when Netanyahu became prime minister for the first time)

This is yet another thinly veiled insult hurled at the Sephardic population of Israel who constitute the base of Netanyahu’s support. About once a month we have a statement from the “left” such as this one by Shavit which only serves to galvanize that base.

It is simply amazing how the Israeli “left” just doesn’t get it.

The News on the Israeli Street

Palestinian terror in Judea and Samaria in the last 24 hours . . .

There have been numerous attacks with “rocks” and Molotovs on Israelis centered at Uzrin, Tekoa, and Azzun. A bomb placed by terrorists at Giv’on was detonated by IDF sappers.

Following these attacks, IDF forces conducted a terrorist round-up overnight:

*One Palestinian terrorist was captured in Nur Shams.

*Two Palestinian terrorists were captured in Al-Masayef.

*Three Palestinian terrorists were captured in Shechem.

*Four Palestinian terrorists were captured in Azzun near Qalqilya.

In each “capture”, our forces met heavy resistance, but no Israelis were wounded in the operations.

Meanwhile, on the Gaza border . . .

Our strategy-less government can do nothing to fight against the attacks on the border fence, the infiltrations, and the balloon terror except to continually express the delusion that maybe things will be better soon.

Yesterday, it was Netanyahu confidant and “security” cabinet member Yitzhak Steinetz’s turn with this piece of drivel: “There is a chance for a long-term arrangement with Hamas in the coming weeks.”

We will probably hear a lot more pathetic nonsense like this over the course of the next three months leading up to the September election.

By the way, there is a better chance that there will be another intensive Hamas missile attack against southern Israel in the coming weeks.

The Trump Administration continues to arm Lebanon . . .

Six MD 530G light attack helicopters, six Scan Eagle unmanned aerial vehicles, communications and electronic equipment, and night vision devices–all totaling $120 million dollars are being turned over to the Lebanese Army (aka Hezbollah) by the Pentagon.

One wonders who the helicopters, drones, communications and electronic equipment, and night vision devices will be used against?

You can answer that question for yourself, dear reader.

TODAY’S BLOG:

The Return of Lt. Col. Shalom Eisner

Lt. Col. Shalom Eisner.

Lt. Col. Shalom Eisner.

In providing context for Today’s Blog, your humble servant cannot help but think of the case of U.S. Lt. Col. Allen West. A highly decorated war veteran serving in Iraq back in 2003, West received information about a terrorist plot to ambush his men.

After capturing one of the terrorists implicated in the plot, West and his men beat the captive to gain the names of others involved. In the process of interrogating the terrorist, West fired his weapon beside the terrorist’s head. The terrorist subsequently gave West and his men the names of the other terrorists.

West was arrested by the U.S. Army and charged with violating the code of military conduct. At a hearing on the charges, West declared: “I know the method I used was not right, but I wanted to take care of my soldiers. If it’s about the lives of my soldiers at stake, I’d go through hell with a gasoline can.”

West was ultimately fined $5000, honorably discharged, and allowed to retire from the Army with full benefits. A few years later, he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives.

So what does all this have to do with Lt. Col. Shalom Eisner?

Do you remember this photograph from 2012:

eisnergun

Eisner, the decorated deputy commander of the Jordan Valley Brigade, is shown as he struck a Danish “peace” member of the International Solidarity Movement (the solidarity movement of those who want to eliminate Israel) at a demonstration at a highway junction.

What the photograph did not show was that Eisner and his men were attacked by the “peace” demonstrators before this; Eisner had just suffered a fractured hand/wrist with two broken fingers before the above photo was taken.

In any case, at the urging of the then Defense Minister Ehud Barak and his pathetic sidekick IDF Chief of Staff Benny Gantz, Eisner was hauled before a military court. Once in court he was universally praised by his men, and even by Palestinian character witnesses who testified that he always treated everyone equally.

Eventually, Eisner accepted a plea bargain in which he was found guilty of “offenses exceeding authority and inappropriate behavior.” In addition he was required to serve two months community service and ordered released from military service.

Your humble servant wrote extensively about the Eisner case in these two blogs:

April 16, 2012  The IDF General Staff and PM Netanyahu Throw One Of Israel’s Best Soldiers Under The Bus

April 18, 2012 The IDF Sacrifices Lt. Col. Shalom Eisner On The Altar of Political Correctness

All of which brings us to today.

Believe it or not, after years of throwing Lt. Col. Eisner under the bus, the IDF has just reinstated him to reserve duty and has returned him to Deputy Commander of the Jordan Valley Brigade.

How this happened no one knows, but thank goodness it did. Lt. Col. Shalom Eisner is precisely the kind of commander we need in the IDF–leaders who put their soldiers before political correctness.

Leaders who are willing to go through hell with a gas can if it helps their troops.
