Quote of the Day

“Murdering Jews will no longer be a lucrative business. We will take their funds immediately.”

Defense Minister Naftali Bennett

Bennett was responding to a statement from Hamas which called the taking of salaries of Palestinian terrorists in prison “robbery” and “a continuation of the Zionist war on the prisoners.”

What the PLO and Hamas are upset about is that Bennett signed an order yesterday seizing money paid to 32 families of terrorists with Israeli citizenship. This followed another Bennett order last week which impounded hundreds of thousands of dollars paid to imprisoned terrorists and their families.

The young girl is the sister of the soldier on the left–who is just completing the grueling “beret march” (photo IDF).

The march itself is a 31 mile, 12 hour hike, during which the soldiers take turns carrying a comrade on a stretcher. The photo above was taken at the end of the march when family and friends come to celebrate their soldier receiving the “beret” of the unit.

More on the Leviathan natural gas field . . .

Now that pumping is underway Israel began transporting natural gas to Jordan today from the well.

In addition, Israel signed an agreement with Greece and Cyprus today to sell natural gas which is supposedly a prelude to building a pipeline which will send Israeli natural gas to buyers throughout Europe.

The flu strikes Israel . . .

Suddenly, Israelis have awakened to the dangers of influenza with a rush to get vaccinated.

Why the rush? So far, 15 Israelis have died and another 133 have been hospitalized.

As of today, 22% of all Israelis have been vaccinated, a 6% increase in the last ten days.

 TODAY’S BLOG:

The Supreme Court Weighs In On The Netanyahu Morass

As we wrote in yesterday’s blog, a significant variable in the Netanyahu-election-immunity situation is the Israel Supreme Court.

This morning the Court weighed in, ruling that there is no law that prohibits a person under indictment from running for public office or from forming a coalition if elected (in the case of a prime minister).

Well sort of . . .

Netanyahu’s forces may be declaring victory this afternoon, but what the Court really said was that it sees no reason or basis to intervene “pre-election”; however, it sees every reason to take up the issue should Netanyahu be tasked with forming a government after the election.

In short, the Court–as your humble servant pointed out yesterday–is perfectly willing to become involved in the election process, and even to possibly thwart the results of the next Israeli election.
