The News on the Israeli Street

The daily Corona update . . .

As of 8 am this morning (Wednesday):

There are 54,042 confirmed casesan increase of 2,366 since this time yesterday

22,743 of these confirmed cases have recoveredan increase of 683

256 are in critical conditiona decrease of 4

77 of the most critically ill are on ventilators—a decrease of 3

425 have diedan increase of 10

There are 31,299 active cases.

Another sharp increase in the number of newly confirmed cases, seeming stabilization in critical and ventilator cases (“seeming” because some critically ill died), and a trend upward in deaths: these are the takeaways from the above statistics.

*Also troubling: 60% of the Corona patients at Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem are under the age of 60, and 90% of the ICU Corona patients at Tel Hashomer are between the ages of 37 and 60.

*It looks like that after months of disastrous dithering, the government is finally on the verge of choosing a Corona “czar”, Professor Gabriel Barbash–the former CEO of the Sourasky Medical Center in Tel Aviv and former director-general of the Health Ministry.

However, at this hour the appointment has still not been confirmed because of determining the scope of Barbash’s powers and whether Barbash will “work for” Health Minister Edelstein or the Corona Cabinet (aka Netanyahu). In other words, the delay is once again being caused by politics.

An instantaneous Corona test . . .

Newsight Imaging is currently testing a new Corona test device at Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer Hospital. The Nes Ziona start-up company has apparently developed a spectroscopic test that will reveal the presence of Corona in a person in less than a second.

The highly portable device is the size of a person’s fist, and tests a person’s saliva or blood serum. A previous field trial has shown the device to be nearly 100% accurate.

The death toll in the strikes on Syria continues to arise . . .

The death toll from the Israeli attack on Iranian targets in and around Damascus two nights ago has become clearer.

At least 5 Iranian Revolutionary Guards and 4 Hezbollah fighters bit the dust.

A topless woman waves a protest T-shirt atop the iconic menorah across from the Knesset. 34 were arrested in last night’s disturbances in Jerusalem.

As the so-called Blag Flag anti-Netanyahu protests continue, its organizers are following the template created by the protest movements in the United States.

As you can see from the above photo, they are now turning their attention to iconic symbols of the state of Israel. We can fully expect an all-out assault on the national anthem Hatikvah and the Israeli flag.

And how long will it be until these left-wing anarchists begin defacing such places as the Western Wall and the Knesset, and start pulling down statues of such people as David Ben-Gurion and Joseph Trumpeldor?

Not long, if the Israel Police do not institute an immediate crackdown.

Leniency breeds anarchy.
