Quotes of the Day

1. “Prime Minister Netanyahu: can I see the Trump Map? Jared Kushner stated that you agreed to a Palestinian state, including a map. Can I see the map?”

Ayelet Shaked, one of the leaders of the Yamina Party. As you know, Yamina is not in the Coalition government, but is suddenly surging in the polls. Several polls yesterday found that if an election were held tomorrow, Yamina would become the second largest party in the Knesset with 18 or 19 seats.

2. “The leaders of the U.A.E. will face the negative consequences of its shameful act similar to what happened to Egyptian President Anwar Sadat.”

General Mohammad Bagheri, the Chief of Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces

This statement threatening assassination could not be clearer.

The News on the Israeli Street

Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .

On the Gaza border:

The scourge of fires continues with 28 more fires started yesterday caused by explosive balloons sent by Palestinian terrorists in Gaza. Particularly hard hit was the area in and around the Be’eri Forest:

A solitary firefighter works to stop a fire in Be'eri Forest yesterday.

A solitary firefighter works to stop a fire in Be’eri Forest yesterday.

There have been so many fires in the last week (almost 200) that IDF units are being cannibalized to create firefighting teams along with the local firefighting groups.

Now that shooting down balloons with lasers seems to have been a bust, the IDF resorted yesterday to sending threatening text messages to balloon terrorists. When you think about it, how is it possible that we know who is sending the explosives and we don’t do anything to stop them except sending them a SMS warning?

Meanwhile, the Gaza power plant will stop working on Tuesday because of a shortage of fuel. But the Gazans should not worry; Israel’s Palliphile Minister of “Defense” Benny Gantz will certainly come to the rescue of Hamas before then. He will probably send the fuel along with a poem about poppies flowering in the spring.

In Judea and Samaria:

There have been incidents overnight and this morning.

A Palestinian terrorist was shot and wounded last night as he attempted to attack worshipers at Rachel’s Tomb near Bethlehem with Molotovs.

At the Qalandiya Checkpoint, a Palestinian was shot after refusing to obey orders to stop running toward a Border policeman:

In Israel:

You will recall how we described last week how Israel was flooded with illegal Palestinians waltzing across the Green Line during the Eid Al-Adha holiday and even being bused in by Israeli “humanitarian” groups. Most of the illegals were heading to Israeli beaches.

Yesterday, one of those illegals, a 22-year-old man, was arrested on charges of committing “an indecent act on minors at sea” in Tel Aviv.  The young people reported the act to beach security who in turn contacted the police.

Also yesterday, another illegal Palestinian was arrested for raping an Israeli woman in a parking lot in Petah Tikva. He is being arraigned in Magistrate’s Court today.

Such are the prices we pay for lack of enforcement of the borders and “humanitarian” efforts to bring Palestinians to beaches in Israel.

The daily Corona (Covid 19) update as of 8 am this morning:

There are 92,680 confirmed casesan increase of 447 since this time yesterday

68,510 of these confirmed cases have recoveredan increase of 559

382 are in critical condition–a decrease of 5

112 of the most critically ill are on ventilators—an decrease of 4

685 have diedan increase of 11

There are 24,170 active cases.

Before you jump with excitement at the lower number of “confirmed cases” (447) today, you should know, dear reader, that this number as well as the “recovered number” from the Health Ministry is highly suspect. On the other hand, the “hospital numbers” (critical condition, ventilators, and dead) are far more accurate.

**As we have written all along, testing here in Israel is terribly inconsistent–hence the data problem today’s numbers. To make matters worse, the laboratory workers who are analyzing the Corona tests announced yesterday that they are going on strike in two weeks.

**The Health Ministry announced yesterday that returnees to Israel from the “green countries” of Austria, Italy, Estonia, Bulgaria, the United Kingdom, Georgia, Germany, Denmark, Hong Kong, Hungary, Greece, Jordan, Latvia, Lithuania, New Zealand, Slovenia, Finland, Canada, Cyprus, and Croatia will not be required to go to a self-quarantine for 14 days.

Say what? New Zealand is in the midst of  its first mini-outbreak; Bulgaria is listed as “red” on many lists; Jordan is doing hardly any testing; the situation in the United Kingdom remains disastrous; Germany is experiencing a Corona resurgence–and our Health Ministry will not ask for self-quarantine? Again, we see little except extreme dysfunction in the Health Ministry and elsewhere in the Corona management hierarchy here.

**Speaking of high infection rates, the Arab population of eastern Jerusalem is in the midst of a severe outbreak because few people observed restrictions over the Eid Al-Adha holiday. As of yesterday, an outrageous 41% of those tested, tested positive.

TODAY’S BLOG:

A Game Changer: The Newsight Corona Test

Speaking of testing, as we have reported previously Israeli researchers at Newsight in Nes Ziona have developed a saliva test for corona which produces results instantaneously. In that previous article almost a month ago, we reported that testing was underway at Sheba Medical Center.

Those tests have now been completed and analyzed along with others performed at Israeli nursing homes and Corona hotels. All told more than 250 people aged 18 and over were tested.

The test proved 95% accurate, as good or better than all other tests currently being used.

Clinical trials are continuing and simultaneously, Newsight has applied to world health authorities for approval. If and when it is approved, the device to test will cost $200, and the cost of each test will be .25 cents.

The leader of the research team, Prof. Eli Schwartz had this to say: “The device has huge potential not only now in the Corona epidemic, but also in the future, as it will make it possible to diagnose in a second a person who carries every possible virus that has been introduced into the system. And even at home. It’s cheap, simple, the test is not invasive and very accurate.”

You can read more about it here on the Newsight website.

What in the world is the world waiting for? Why aren’t we already beginning to use this all over Israel?

This test is a game changer that will get economies back on their feet.

A year from now, it may well be used at the entrance to every airport, movie theater, restaurant, sporting event, and concert in the world.

Maybe there is light at the end of the Corona tunnel–even prior to vaccinations.
