Disingenuous Quote of the Day

“I have a deep and full commitment to strengthening settlement in Judea and Samaria . . .  Without Judea and Samaria our existence would have been in danger. This is our identity and heritage and here is our future. We are here and here we will stay forever. We will continue to work closely together to build our country and homeland.”

PM Netanyahu speaking at the ceremony in Ariel yesterday announcing that the U.S. will no longer deny funds to educational and scientific institutions in Judea and Samaria (at least as long as Trump is president).

This is the same Netanyahu who just threw the sovereignty movement under the bus and who has virtually frozen all construction in Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria for 11 years.

Does he really think that we have forgotten his record? Only 9 out of 24 community heads in Judea and Samaria showed up for the ceremony yesterday. The other 15 boycotted the meeting because of Netanyahu’s lack of commitment to Judea and Samaria.

The News on the Israeli Street

 The daily Corona (Covid-19) update . . .

The following covers the last 24 hours:

297,881 of these confirmed cases have recoveredan increase of 1,225

471 are in critical condition—an increase of 4

199 of the most critically ill are on ventilatorsan increase of 4

2,494 have diedan increase of 11

There are now 14,236 active Corona cases in Israel.

On the Palestinian front . . .

Israel informed the PLO yesterday that the order to sanction banks which provide funds to Palestinian terrorists will no longer be frozen.

Why it was ever frozen is incomprehensible except that it was the work of our so-called “Defense” Minister Benny Gantz.

Unfortunately the freeze will not be removed until the end of December.

On the Lebanese front . . .

You will recall that Israelis and Lebanese “negotiators” have been meeting in Naqura (just over the border in Lebanon) to finalize the agreement that was to have ended the maritime dispute between the two countries. That dispute centered on a small sliver of sea.

The negotiations were not really supposed to be negotiations. In advance of the talks, Israel had already agreed to a 58% Lebanon-42% Israel division. All that was left was to sign the Agreement and undertake other unrelated talks.

Until yesterday.

When the Lebanese declared that they now want an additional 1,460 km2 taken from Israeli maritime territory. More specifically, the Lebanese are now claiming that they own the “Shark” gas field along with Block 72.

Remember the old Israeli expression?

Give an Arab a finger, and he will want your whole hand.

Whatever happened to the railway? . . .

As you will remember, Israel supposedly had a deal for the Chinese to construct a railway from Eilat to Ashdod. At long last, Israelis would be able to get to Eilat by rail, and cargo that came into Eilat from the Red Sea could be transported to Ashdod for shipment to Europe.

The plans were drawn up and all was ready to go, but now all has stalled.

Why? Because the Egyptians object.

They are particularly upset that Chinese ships would no longer have to traverse the Suez Canal–and thereby avoid paying the exorbitant fees charged by the Egyptians.

Never mind that we are talking about a railway being built in Israel, it appears that the Egyptians now have veto power over projects here.

The government finally acts . . .

One of the more hideous facts of life here in Israel is how various groups come here and try to convert Jews to their various sects and religions.

For example, one so-called messianic Christian sect “Jews for Jesus” has been particularly active in recent years. Similarly the Jehovah’s Witnesses have set up shop in a number of cities here.

Simply unbelievable has been the fact that the government actually encouraged groups like these by providing them tax exemptions.

No longer. Yesterday, the Knesset Finance Committee voted unanimously to end the tax breaks to any group which missionizes Jews in this country.

TODAY’S BLOG:

Place of Birth: Jerusalem, Israel

How an American passport for those born in Jerusalem used to look.

How an American passport for those born in Jerusalem used to look.

The U.S. State Department let it be known yesterday that it is finally going to allow Americans born in Jerusalem to write Jerusalem, Israel as their place of birth on their passports.

Finally, after 72 years.

President Trump has made the decision to overrule the career Palliphiles in the U.S. State Department–something that no other American president was willing to do.

As regular readers of OneIsrael know, the U.S. State Department in conjunction with a succession of U.S. presidents had decreed that those born in Jerusalem could not write the name of the country in which they were born. The excuse that was always given was that “the status of Jerusalem will only be determined through negotiations.”

In terms of U.S. passports, Jerusalem was the only city in the world whose country could not appear on an American passport.

The reality is that the status of Jerusalem has never been in question.

It has been and always will be the eternal capital of the nation of Israel.

One final note: Your humble servant is looking forward to going down to the American Embassy in Jerusalem with three of my grandchildren and having their passports changed from “Jerusalem” to “Jerusalem, Israel.”

Kolakevod President Trump!
