The News on the Israeli Street

Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .

Palestinian terrorists attacked Israeli buses and cars with “rocks” and Molotovs between Deir Dewan and Givat Assaf.

Palestinian terrorists attacked Israeli motorists with Molotovs on Road 443 near the Dor Alon Gas Station, between Tapuach and Ariel, on the Gush Etzion-Hevron Road, on Road 55 between the Nabi Elias Bypass and the Eliyahu Crossing, at Tekoa, Luban A-Sharqiya, near the Al-Aruv curve, just outside of Ramallah, on Road 465, near Dotan, and at numerous other locations.

A Palestinian terrorist with a knife was captured near the Kedumim Junction.

Palestinian terrorists threw IEDs at the security fence at Beit El.

The daily Corona update . . .

6,314 more Israelis were confirmed “yesterday” as having Covid-19. There are now 65,432 active cases in the country.

1,256,600 Israelis have contracted Corona since the pandemic began.

The positive test rate yesterday was 5.14%.

703 Israelis are in serious condition with another 203 in critical condition on ventilators.

7,611 Israelis have died–an increase of 19 since yesterday.

Vaccinations:

6,081,276 Israelis have received 1 dose.

5,605,489 Israelis have received 2 doses.

3,154,008 Israelis have received 3 doses.

The U.S. House votes to fund the Iron Dome . . .

As we noted yesterday, in an almost desperate rush to make good after the Iron Dome funding fiasco a few days ago, the U.S. House of Representatives voted 420-9 to pass the $1 billion dollar Iron Dome Supplemental Appropriations Act.

Eight Democrats (the self-proclaimed “Progressive” caucus) opposed the measure: Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts, Cori Bush of Missouri, Andre Carson of Indiana, Marie Newman of Illinois, Jesus Garcia of Illinois and Raul Grivalva of Arizona–along with one Republican, Rep. Tom Massie of Kentucky.

Interesting, the always abominable Democrat Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York essentially abstained from voting by voting  “present.” After casting her present “vote”, she broke down in tears because she didn’t support her “progressive” colleagues (presumably because of the electoral implications of a negative vote on her part).

TODAY’S BLOG

“Progressive” Is A Dirty Word

There was a time when the word “progressive” had a distinctly positive meaning. Whether it was a person fighting for workers’ rights or women’s suffrage and against segregation and discrimination, that person was to be applauded for seeking badly needed social reform.

However, that time is long past. “Progressives” of today are not the progressives of yesteryear.

Regular readers of OneIsrael know that your humble servant holds today’s “progressives” in disdain. The reason why I always put the word in “quotation marks” is that I feel that “progressives” are not progressive at all.

Events of the past few months underscore that fact.

To begin with, we had the “progressive” board of Ben and Jerry’s vote to boycott Jewish communities in Area C of Judea and Samaria.

Then we had the “progressive” Combatants for Peace reportedly assault our soldiers on their way to a “humanitarian” delivery of water to an illegal Palestinian settlement.

Next we have had the progressives in our own government here in Israel bending over backwards to make concessions of all sorts to the PLO in Ramallah and Hamas in Gaza.

Finally, two days ago, we had “progressives” in the U.S. House of Representatives force funding for the Iron Dome Defense System to be deleted from the Budget bill.

Your humble servant imagines that all of the above “progressives” share the same basic ideology. They see themselves as liberal progressives like those in the past who want to end a status quo which is fraught with racism that denies civil rights, sexism that denies equal rights for women, homophobia that rejects gay rights, and disregard for the environment.

Interestingly, one self-described progressive has noted that in its rabid pursuit of a society free from racism, sexism, homophobia, and environmental disregard, the progressive movement has devolved into a “fanatical embrace of the oppressor-victim narrative.”

This is particularly true when it comes to the “progressive” embrace of the Palestinians.

Despite the fact that the PLO and Hamas governments openly deny civil rights, openly discriminate against women, openly reject gays to the point of imprisonment and even murder, and openly pollute the environment by dumping sewage and all other toxins into nature, rivers, and the sea, “progressives” embrace Palestinians simply because they are the “victims” in their oppressor-victim narrative.

To put this a different way, “progressives” support Palestinian denial of civil rights, Palestinian discrimination against women, Palestinian atrocities against gays, and Palestinian raping of the environment.

In doing so, “progressives” have become the champions of the double standard.

Ben and Jerry’s can sell ice cream in Ramallah and Gaza but not in Judea and Samaria.

Combatants for Peace has no problem provoking Israeli soldiers or supporting illegal Palestinian settlements while working with PLO supporters to undermine legal Israeli communities.

Our own “progressive” government correctly fights against racism, sexism, discrimination against gays, and against environmental contamination while ignoring the very racism, sexism, discrimination and contamination inherent in PLO and Hamas society.

The “progressives” in the U.S. House actively deny Israelis the ability to defend ourselves against missiles fired to kill us by Palestinians–a denial they would not make to any other country.

In sum, “progressives” continually pat each other on the back because they see themselves as champions of the poor and oppressed. But more than this, they pride themselves on the notion that they are champions of change and progress.

In fact, they are not. Supporting corrupt societies and violent terrorists in Ramallah and Gaza is not progressive; it is nauseatingly regressive.

“Progressive” has become a dirty word.
