Announcement of the Day

Tonight

Tonight

Regular readers of OneIsrael know that your humble servant continuously documents Palestinian terror attacks on the roads of Judea and Samaria.

Tonight there will be demonstrations all along Highway 60 protesting government inaction to stop the terror and demanding the building of better road infrastructure. As the announcement says, the demonstrations will take place at Machmash Crossing (Kachar), Givat Assaf Junction, Ofra Junction, Shilo Junction, and the Ma’ale Lavona North Junction.

The head of the Binyamin Council called all to join in the protest: “We cannot be silent! We warned, we warned, we demanded effective enforcement and in a moment a child’s life was cut short. We demand an ’emergency enforcement plan’ on the roads.”

The News on the Israeli Street

Today’s Corona update . . .

5,473 Israelis tested positive yesterday (out of 23,035 tested) bringing to 54,516 the number of active patients in the country.

The positive test rate was 23.76%; the coefficient of infection was 0.8%.

360 Israelis are seriously ill108 are critically ill95 of these are on ventilators.

11,347 have died–13 since yesterday.

A new political party on the Israeli scene . . .

With sagging poll numbers, Yamina headed by Ayelet Shaked and Derech Eretz headed by Yoaz Handel have decide to merge into a new party named “The Zionist Spirit.”

The logo enphasizes "right wing values" and practicality.

If, as your humble servant fervently hopes, there is to be a right-wing government in Israel, it is imperative for Shaked’s new party to pass the 4% threshold. This will be difficult to achieve because Shaked’s popularity faded when she joined the Coalition government which depended on the Islamist Ra’am Party.

However, she came out swinging last night with this statement: “I know Yamina voters are disappointed, but the facts are that we have preserved the values of the right and the values for which we were elected. We built the settlement in Judea and Samaria, we developed the Negev, Hamas is deterred, there was an amazing Flag Parade in Jerusalem, the Iranians don’t sleep at night, the economy is booming. We did good things. We need to look at the facts.”

Well yes, and well no. As much as your humble servant likes Shaked, anyone who thinks that Coalition government preserved the values of the right in Judea and Samaria is delusional. Built the settlement–what settlement? Developed the Negev–what about the Bedouin takeover of the Negev? The economy is booming–what about the soaring prices of everything?

Pagaya, Solaredge, Check Point, Nice, and ICL . . .

As you may not know, these are the five Israeli companies with the highest market value on Wall Street–having long since surpassed such older Israeli standards as Amdocs, Elbit, and Teva.

Yesterday, shares of Pagaya, an investment company in Tel Aviv, jumped 73.1% in value.

High Court of Justice Decision On Mitzpe Kramim

In a shocking and blockbuster decision yesterday, the Israel High Court of Justice decided that some 40 families in Mitzpe Kramim will not need to be evacuated and have their homes razed.

Here are the facts:

Mitzpe Kramin was built as a hilltop outpost overlooking the Jordan Valley in 1999. The empty land was allocated by the quasi-governmental Settlement Division of the World Zionist Organization.

In 2011, it was claimed by left-wing organizations that the land was “private Palestinian land” belonging to the nearby Palestinian settlement of Deir Jarir. The organizations in conjunction with the residents of Deir Jarir filed a petition to have the community removed.

In 2020, the High Court of Justice agreed with the petitioners that most of the community had to be evacuated (aka razed).

However, in a dramatic ruling yesterday, the Court reversed itself in a 4-3 split decision and said that that community can stay because the land was allocated by the government “in good faith.” It also ruled that the Palestinians who can really prove that they have title to the land are entitled to compensation.

Hopefully, this decision is a precedent which will lead to the legalization of hundreds of homes in Jewish communities in Area C.
