The News on the Israeli Street

The war in Judea and Samaria.

Shooting attacks:

Palestinian terrorists remain engaged in a firefight in Akbara near Shechem. It is believed that a special ops IDF unit has surrounded the terrorist(s) who carried out the murders of the father and son in Hawara last month.

Palestinian terrorists fired on IDF forces in Tulkarm.

Palestinian terrorists opened fire on an Israeli shepherd east of Rimonim Square. The shepherd was not wounded; the terrorists escaped.

IED, Molotov, “rock” attacks:

Palestinian terrorists tried to kill Israelis at the Bnei Naim Junction near Kiryat Arba, on Road 458 near Al Muayyir, at Sinds Kilax, Beit Haji, Mt. Hevron, Al Aruv, and at a dozen locations along Road 60 in Samaria.

Numerous motorists were attacked between the Large Yakir Junction and the Rabba Junction (see photos of 2 autos below):

Amazingly, neither person in the front seat was wounded. (Photo: Rescue without Borders SSF).

Government idiocy is unbounded . . .

It was announced this morning, that the Netanyahu government has approved the transfer of U.S. weapons and military vehicles to the PLO via Jordan.

Ostensibly, this transfer is supposed to strengthen the PLO in its fight against Hamas and Islamic Jihad in northern Samaria–especially Jenin.

In reality, as we have seen so many times in the past, these weapons and vehicles will be used in attacks on Israelis.

Not only is the U.S. supplying weapons to the PLO . . .

. . . but also the U.S. agreed to release $6 billion dollars in frozen Iranian funds to the ayatollahs in return for the release of 5 imprisoned Iranian-Americans.

Billions more for Iranian proxies around the world that are targeting Israelis and Israel.

Speaking of Iran . . .

Defense Minister Gallant revealed yesterday that Iran now has an airbase located only 20 km from the Israeli border in south Lebanon.

20 km. Just over 12 miles.

Your humble servant’s question: why in the world is Gallant talking about it and not doing something about it? Why hasn’t this airfield been bombed into nonexistence?

TODAY’S BLOG

The Circus At the Supreme Court This Morning

“Despite extremely problematic judicial activism, there was at least one agreed basis – the court respected the basic laws. This is the basis that has preserved democracy in Israel. The responsibility to maintain this common foundation lies at the door of the court. The hearing that is taking place today in the Supreme Court, with a complete lack of authority, is a fatal injury to democracy and the status of the Knesset.”

Israel Justice Minister Yariv Levin in a post this morning.

The big news in Israel today is the hearing with its accompanying media circus taking place at the Supreme Court at this moment. The 15 Justices are considering petitions against the “Reasonableness Amendment” to the Basic Judiciary Law.

As Levin points out, the Supreme Court has no authority whatsoever to even consider the case except what it has arrogated to itself. 75 years of precedents have demonstrated repeatedly that the Court has no ability to reject a Basic Law or an amendment to one.

However, this Court appears more than willing to do so. In particular, Chief Justice Esther Hayut who is now 1 month from her retirement seems determined to ram her leftist progressive agenda down the throat of Israel.

She is so determined that she is apparently willing to break with all statutes to continue being involved with the case even after her retirement. It is projected that the decision of the Court (which may have already been written) may not be handed down until November or December.

Meanwhile the circus at the Court continues this morning.
