“Who Are The Extremists?”

NUMBER OF DAYS UNTIL THE ISRAELI ELECTION: 20

ISRAELSTREET endorses NAFTALI BENNETT for Prime Minister

Head of “HaBayit HaYehudi” (The Jewish Home) political party

UPDATES 5:00 pm Israel time Wednesday:

*The Israel Elections Commission and the Israel Supreme Court have ordered Likud to take down the anti-Bennett “concentration camp” ad discussed in this blog yesterday. According to the judge who ruled on the case, Likud’s ad offends the sensibilities of Israel.

*Speaking of Bennett, he continues to soar in the polls with one survey this morning suggesting that the Jewish home party may win as many as 17 seats. Apparently, even the Orthodox parties fear that they are now losing voters to Bennett and have launched their own attack on him today for being “too secular”.

*Meanwhile, Likud’s answer to Bennett, Moshe Feiglin (who has been arrested twice on the Temple Mount in the last two days), announced yesterday that he supports a plan to pay Palestinian families $500,000 each to leave Judea and Samaria.

*In regard to the Temple Mount, a Maariv reporter who entered the Mount in disguise yesterday, described the Islamic destruction of Jewish features of the Mount as being like what the Taliban did to the Buddhist statues in Afghanistan.

TODAY’S BLOG:

Regular readers of israelstreet know that your humble servant rarely reprints articles or opinion pieces, but today one has struck my eye that so parallels the blogs of your humble servant and is so correct in its observations that it deserves to be reprinted in its entirety.

The op-ed, reprinted here in its entirety, appeared on ynetnews.com this morning. It was written by Andreas Fagerbakke, a 25 year old Norwegian “pro-Israel online activist and a freelance writer for With Israel for Peace”:

“Who Are The Extremists?”

“People who are pro-Israel always have to defend their opinions and are usually on the defensive. Now it’s time for us to stand up and turn the tables.

Why do we always have to defend our opinions? Why must we always be on the defensive? Those people who call us extremists and want to push us into a corner, these people are the real extremists, but they are always let easily off the hook. It’s time to stop defending ourselves and start being on the offensive. Let’s confront those people who call us extremists with the following questions:

Who are the extremists? Those who want the security barrier and all the checkpoints removed, which will lead to a wave of terror attacks against Israeli civilians, or those who want the barrier and checkpoints to remain in place?

Who are the extremists? Those who want the naval blockade of Gaza to be lifted, which will give terrorists in Gaza more weapons and rockets (which will again lead to more war and suffering for both Israelis and Palestinians) or those who do not want the naval blockade to be lifted?

Who are the extremists? Those who want Judea and Samaria to be Jewish-free or those who want both Arabs and Jews to build and live in the area?

Who are the extremists? Those who want millions of Palestinians to return to Israel, a development that would practically destroy the only safe haven that the Jewish people have on this earth, or those who oppose such a radical idea?

Who are the extremists? Those who believe Israel should tolerate thousands of missiles raining down on its citizens or those who believe that Israel (like any other country) has the right to defend its citizens and stop the rockets?

Who are the extremists? Those who don’t want Jews to live in certain areas of Jerusalem or those who want both Arabs and Jews to live freely in all of Jerusalem?

And yet we, who are pro-Israel, are painted as the extremists. Has the world turned upside down?”

As has often been pointed out here on israelstreet, we live in an Orwellian age when the world has indeed turned upside down. What is moral has been made to appear immoral; what is self-defense is now called extremism.

It is the Palestinian narrative that is immoral; it is the Palestinian narrative that is extreme; it is the Palestinian narrative which must be fought tooth and nail in every corner of the globe.

And that fight, dear reader, begins with you.
