UPDATES 6:00 pm

***Palestinian terror in the last 2 hours.

Amidst all of the “rock” and Molotov attacks all day long, we have had:

–two sniper shootings in the last two hours. At 6:17 pm, an Israeli man was shot and “moderately” wounded at the Hakvishim intersection; just after 4:00 pm, a 20-year-old IDF soldier was shot in the stomach near the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hebron. Her condition is not known at this hour. In both cases, the terrorist or terrorists escaped.

–a stabbing attack at a bus stop in the East Talpiot neighborhood of Jerusalem–also at around 4:00 pm. The Israeli stabbed was “moderately wounded”; the terrorist was captured.

***Nashat Melhem, the murderer of the two Israelis at the pub on Friday, remains at large . . .

. . . and the manhunt for him continues centering on north Tel Aviv. A number of interesting facts have emerged:

  1. it turns out that a civilian at the scene of the attack was armed and refused to fire. Why? Perhaps he was afraid of being prosecuted by Yehuda Weinstein–Israel’s crackpot Attorney General.
  2. Melhem was previously imprisoned for attempting to steal a soldier’s weapon. During this time, a gun issued to his father (who is a police volunteer) was confiscated. When Melhem was released, the gun was reissued to his father. It was that gun that was used in the attack.

***Somehow lost in the shootings at the pub . . .

. . . is the fact that another Israeli, taxi driver Amin Shaaban, was shot and killed not far from the scene of the attack. There is every reason to believe that Melhem may have killed him.

***The IDF Personnel Division has released statistics . . .

. . . that show that fewer IDF soldiers died in 2015 than in any year in the last twelve years. 36 soldiers died: 6 were killed in action, 6 died from illness or disease, 9 were killed in accidents (vehicle and other), and 15 committed suicide.

TODAY’S BLOG:

Glory Halleluyah!

The Duma arson case has been solved!!

The handyman did it!!!

Well, that is, if you can believe Shin Bet–and if you can believe a coerced confession “achieved” after a month of interrogation in which teenagers and others were rounded up and thrown into prison without being charged with any crime, without access to legal representation, and without access to family members.

And guess what? The handyman was not one of the teenagers.

Let’s repeat that. The person who has finally been charged is 21-year-old Amiram Ben Uliel, a self-employed handyman who works in the Shiloh area. Ben Uliel is married with one child.  He is not one of the “hilltop teenagers.”

And, according to Shin Bet, Ben Uliel acted alone.

In the process of announcing the indictment, Shin Bet also announced that some of the people who have been held under “suspicion” of having committed other crimes are not guilty of anything and are being released. Included in this group is “hilltop teenager” leader Mordechai Mayer who along with Meir Ettinger has been in prison for almost 4 months.

The trial of Ben Uliel should be quite a spectacle. His wife has already spoken to reporters about how he was beaten into confessing–and that he was elsewhere on the night of the Duma arson.

Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked commented this morning: “I hope Ben Uliel can get a fair trial.”

Isn’t that a remarkable comment on the state of the judiciary in Israel?
