The News on the Israeli Street

On the Gaza border . . .

Dozens of more incendiary balloons were launched by Palestinian terrorists in Gaza toward Israeli communities along the Gaza border last night.

It’s bad enough that . . .

Look carefully at this blurry picture. What flag do you see?

Look carefully at this blurry picture. What flag do you see?

It’s bad enough that the Israeli flag is often prohibited from being flown at international sports competitions held in Arab countries.

As of yesterday, you can add Greece to the list.

AS Ramat Hasharon, the leading Israeli handball team, arrived at the Marusi Arena in Athens for its quarterfinal game in the European Championship. Looking up, they saw all the flags of the other teams that were participating such as those of Hungary, France, and Denmark.

But there was no Israeli flag; in its place was the PLO flag.

When the team pointed this out to the organizers, it made no difference. They refused to take down the PLO flag and put up the Israeli one.

About that seating arrangement in Poland . . .

As you may not know, a brouhaha of sorts erupted at the recent Peace and Security in the Middle East Conference in Warsaw–which dealt mainly with the Iranian threat:

Who looks unhappy in this picture?

Who looks unhappy in this picture?

As you can note from the above picture, the foreign minister of Yemen, Khaled Al Yamin found himself seated between U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and PM Netanyahu.

Given the fact that Yemen has no diplomatic relations with Israel, it was apparently an uncomfortable spot for Yamin to be in. And it became even more uncomfortable in the aftermath of the conference. Yamin and the government of Yemen were bombarded with criticism from parts of the Arab world about how Yemen was normalizing relations with Israel.

In response to the criticism Yamin said that it was not his doing; he was merely sitting in the seat that was assigned him. Interestingly, however, he added: “We did not come to talk about the Palestinian problem or to talk to Netanyahu. Israel’s enemy is Iran, and the greatest danger that threatens our stability is Iran.”

Statements like this must drive the PLO crazy because they represent an Arabic movement away from putting the Palestinians at the top of the list of Arab priorities.

Blatant Anti-Semitism:

Germany Leads The Effort To Embrace Iran

In the lead-up to and during the Munich Security Conference this past week, the Germans let it be known that they are furious with PM Netanyahu.

What is their gripe?

Simply that Netanyahu refuses to let the Germans off the hook for their egregious conduct toward Iran. Not only are the German doing everything they can to circumvent American sanctions on Iran, they are also doing everything they can to thwart Israel’s developing relationships with countries in eastern Europe which are partly based on eliminating the Iranian threat.

Leading both efforts is none other than Chancellor Angela Merkel.

The first comment about Netanyahu came from “unnamed sources” in the Merkel government who proclaimed: “We are the European Union. Israel’s romance with the eastern European countries is precisely meant to stick Israel’s finger in the German eye.”

Can you believe the sheer arrogance of the above statement?

Germany is spending much of its time to actually increase the existential threat against Israel; PM Netanyahu is criticizing the Germans for it; and somehow Israel is sticking its finger into the almighty German and European Union eye by pointing it out.

Amazing chutzpah.

As for Merkel herself, she blathered yet another defense at the conference of the Iranian nuclear weapons appeasement deal by proclaiming that it is a means of “allowing the West to exert pressure” on the Iranians.

What horse manure.

Merkel continued that she was “depressed” over the split in the European Union over Iran. More than this, she then ludicrously added that  “I see the Iranian ballistic missile program; I see Iran in Yemen;  and above all I see Iran in Syria, but it is important to maintain the agreement with Iran.”

What exactly would it take for the Germans and the European Union to halt their support of Iran?

Answer: There is nothing that would stop them because their support for Iran is based on nothing less than sinister anti-Semitism.

We have said it before and we will continue to say it: what we are witnessing is a return to the 1930s in Germany and in many other western countries in Europe.
